Two Canadians got a mini pig and got a surprise that completely changed their lives

Two Canadians, Steve and Derek, lived an ordinary life; they worked, usually had barbecues and never thought that a pig could change their lives forever. The baby of a mini sow, by the will of fate, arrived at their home and brought not only great joy and a series of additional problems: it also brought great changes in the lives of these two guys.

O awesome.club literally fell in love with this little animal and decided to share with you the story of the wonderful Esther.

In the summer of 2012, Derek Walter and Steve Jenkins became Esther’s owners by pure chance. An old friend called Steve and asked if he would like to take care of a baby mini pig. He thought that Derek wouldn’t want to have a piglet (as was previously thought) running around the house, but even so, both he and Steve accepted it. When taking little Esther home Steve expected to take care of her alone, and he had no idea that this cute little pig would change both of their lives forever.

It soon became clear that the joke about a man who bought a hamster that turned out to be a bear was not just an invention, but something that could actually happen. When the youngsters took their new pet to the vet, he was very surprised that the owners called Esther a ‘mini pig’. According to all the signs, it was an ordinary piglet, as they were able to prove shortly afterwards.

The weight of an adult mini pig should not exceed 30 kilograms, and Esther, already eight months old, weighed 77 kilograms and was clearly not going to stop there. In the end, the cute little pig acquired a “body” of almost 300 kilos. The fact that, instead of a mini pig, she actually became a huge animal, did not bother the owners, quite the contrary, they decided that this was a reason to love Esther even more.

Esther quickly found a common language with the cats and dogs that already lived in the house. She herself, according to her owners, is very similar to a big dog: she loves toys, fights, hugs and when her belly is scratched. Steve says that, in terms of intelligence, Esther is even ahead of the dogs, so he is not surprised that she is considered a leader and that they give way to her when her plate is full of food.

Steve and Derek are so attached to their pet that they have completely abandoned meat consumption and become animal advocates. They opened accounts on social networks, where, in a funny way, they talk about daily life as if they were Esther. Today, this little pig has almost 1 million and 500 thousand followers on Facebook and more than 500 thousand on Instagram.

Like a real pig, Esther likes to dig and wallow in the mud, but after such exercises, she willingly agrees to take a bath.

Despite the fact that the owners adore their pet, they do not advise others to have pigs at home without first thoroughly researching all the risks related to this and consciously weighing the pros and cons.

The boys thought they had a mini pig, but they were wrong. Therefore, the rules of the game have changed over time. Even so, not for a second did the possibility of getting rid of the beloved pig cross their minds. The first thing they started to do was hide the food as high as possible and carefully close all the doors and drawers.

With the cupboards tightly closed and the food hidden, the changes didn’t stop there. In addition to Steve and Derek becoming vegan, they moved to a farm, where they started a shelter for farm animals in need called Esther’s Sanctuary of Eternal Happiness Farm.

Young people want to show as many people as possible the true nature of animals, which are generally considered just food: thus showing their capacity for love, their compassion, intelligence and loyalty.

Collecting all the observations and stories from their pet’s life, Derek and Steve published the book Esther is a Wonderful Pig 🇧🇷Esther is a wonderful pig), which became the best book of 2016 on Amazon and entered the list of bestsellers in the newspaper The New York Times🇧🇷

At the end of 2018, the piglet’s owners signed a contract with one of the biggest studios in hollywood and with the producer The Donners Companywhich produced proven hits such as X-Men: The Movie🇧🇷 Deadpool🇧🇷 A dog-friendly hotel and free Willy🇧🇷 Soon all Esther fans will be able to see the premiere of a movie about the life of this wonderful little pig.
