Members of the British royal family have always been at the center of public attention, but those who make up the workings of the British royal household are often behind the scenes. Meet Lady Susan Hussey

Susan Katharine Hussey (maiden name: Waldegrave) was born on May 1, 1939. On April 25, 1959, she married Marmaduke Hussey, and they had 2 children. She is Baroness of North Bradley, a noblewoman who serves as a companion to Queen Elizabeth II. Lady Susan’s position is officially called the “Woman of the Bedchamber”. This English term is used to refer to a woman destined to meet a monarch as a lady-in-waiting.

She has known Queen Elizabeth II for over 60 years

Lady Susan joined the British royal household in 1960. She began her service by helping the Queen answer letters. Over time, she has become one of the most trusted members of the Queen’s office, and she is referred to as “The Number One Prefect”. Throughout her six-decade career, Lady Susan has been present at several important events that took place in the royal family.

She welcomed new arrivals Lady Diana and Meghan Markle and reportedly recommended Prince William and Prince Harry’s nanny for the job. Lady Susan Hussey has built close relationships not only with Her Majesty, but also with other members of the royal family and those close to them. In 2017, for example, she was photographed side by side with Pippa Middleton, when visiting a church in Sandringham (pictured above).

She is Prince William’s godmother

The photo above was a celebration of Prince William’s confirmation day. You can see Lady Susan Hussey in green, standing behind Diana and William🇧🇷 William has six godparents. In addition to Lady Susan, they are: King Constantine II of Greece, Lord Romsey, Princess Alexandra, the Duchess of Westminster and Sir Laurens van der Post.

She was always by the queen’s side

After years of Lady Susan faithfully carrying out her duties and supporting Her Majesty, it is not surprising that the Queen turned to her on the day of Prince Philip’s funeral. In this moment of pain and sadness, the queen called her longtime friend to share her feelings and take comfort. And although Lady Susan did not enter the Church and the Queen was seated alone, she accompanied Her Majesty on the way to the ceremony. and was by his side on that painful occasion.

Lady Susan is a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, i.e. a “Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order”, a dynastic order of chivalry that Queen Victoria established in 1896. For her loyalty, she was also awarded the Queen with medals commemorating her 30, 40, 50 and 60 years of service in the British royal house. Lady Susan Hussey is not paid for your service, but she has faithfully supported Her Majesty through all these years out of her own loyalty.
