The power of pink juice

Juices, in addition to being tasty and refreshing, are very important in the routine of those who follow a healthy diet – whether with the aim of losing weight, maintaining weight or simply having a better quality of life.

After the success of green juices and other detox drinks, a new type of drink has attracted attention, especially from people who practice physical activities: pink juice, which, in addition to detoxifying, improves physical performance and facilitates muscle recovery.

Made from beetroot, the juice initially gained fame in Europe, after the publication of research that proved its benefits, but today it is already part of the menu of many Brazilians and is highly recommended by nutritionists.

“Pink juice is a drink that helps detoxify, nourish and distributes nutrients in the body”, explains sports nutritionist Vanessa Lobato.

The professional adds that the juice has nitrate as its main source. “In the bloodstream, it turns into nitric oxide which helps with blood perfusion – blood travels through the blood vessels much more easily,” she says.

It is also worth adding that, if it is not strained, the drink will offer a large amount of fibers from beetroot, which help to provide satiety and help in the proper functioning of the intestine, contributing to weight loss.

How to consume?

Vanessa Lobato explains that it is interesting to consume pink juice before and/or after practicing sports. “For aerobic activities, the recommendation is to take it before; for strength activities like weight training after workouts,” she says.

Patrícia Fernandes, 21, a student, says that her nutritionist suggested that she drink the pink juice before the race. “She indicated that I consume the drink up to two hours before physical activity. I thought it was great, because, in addition to being tasty, I noticed on the first day that the juice gave me more energy to run”, she says.

Diana Menezes, 26, a lawyer, says she has also joined the juice. “I wasn’t used to taking anything after training – running or weight training. But after reading about the benefits of pink juice, I was curious to try it. I started consuming it, so after the exercises and I really felt a difference, I think it makes me recover much better from physical activities. I thought it was a great option, as it is also very tasty,” she says.

Revenue variations

Pink juice normally combines beetroot with orange, but other ingredients can be added to make the drink even tastier and healthier.

Red fruits: Vanessa Lobato suggests including in the juice red fruits, rich in antioxidants, such as strawberries, goji berry, blueberry, grapes and blueberry.

“But it is worth noting that, as the juice base is nitrate, acidic fruits such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, among others, should not be added to the drink. Otherwise, the nitrate will be converted into nitric acid before being absorbed”, explains the nutritionist.

Coconut water: it makes the juice sweeter and more delicious.

Flaxseed: a good tip is to add a dessert spoon of flaxseed to the juice, because it is a good source of omega 3 and fiber, which will help even more in the feeling of satiety.

Ginger: A small slice of ginger from this root can be added to the juice to speed up metabolism.

Now you know the benefits of pink juice and have good reasons to include it in your diet!
