The most beautiful indigenous woman in the universe is Mexican, and that’s how she won a crown for her beauty

Despite being born into poverty and discrimination, Silvia Jim fought for her dream of becoming a professional model. After years of work, she managed to achieve one of her goals: to be crowned in the Miss Indigenous Universe pageant. The fight, however, continues, and the beauty continues with her studies in the health area with the aim of helping her own community.

O awesome.club spoke with Silvia Jim, addressing issues ranging from her origin to the moment of her coronation. She spoke about her strong commitment to social causes and also about her studies, undertaken to allow her to collaborate even more with the culture of her people, the amuzgos.

Silvia’s origins in the Amuzga culture

Silvia Jim was born into the Amuzga culture, a people from what is now the Mexican state of Guerrero. Her childhood was not easy, and from an early age she had to deal with several problems. Among them were lack of food in the community and discrimination simply for being part of a different culture. At the age of 14, Silvia started her modeling career, which made her overcome adversity to be crowned in a world contest.

The young woman’s skills and resilience were evident even in childhood. As she was very studious, she always got good grades in school. Also, she wasn’t swayed by what others said. “I never let people say I couldn’t make my dreams come true.”

Her participation in Miss Indigenous Universe was an opportunity she took full advantage of, being crowned the first Mexican to win the world competition. “There were sleepless nights and crying days, but it was all worth it to raise the name of Mexico and indigenous cultures.”

Commitment to fighting poverty and malnutrition

The experience of growing up in vulnerable situations made Silvia commit to helping her people. For the same reason, she dedicates her time to creating community canteens aimed at combating malnutrition. The model herself said: “I grew up in extreme poverty and marginalization”. But that was precisely what motivated her to fight for her dreams.

Nutritionist and activist at the United Nations

When it comes to social work focused on food, Silvia has several trainings related to the health area, one of which is nutritionist. She is committed to providing a better quality of life for the people who saw her grow up, serving as an example for future generations.

The notoriety she has been gaining has already opened doors, as the beauty has become a spokesperson for indigenous rights at the United Nations. “I want to be a role model for new generations to follow,” she said. For Silvia, taking advantage of her social role to give voice to her community and be able to help her is of fundamental importance.
