The alleged ending of “Game of Thrones” that went viral in 2017 (and how the series could have ended)

In 2017, someone published a file on the Internet, with alleged revelations about the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. Some people were skeptical about the matter, but a lot of people loved what they read: for this class, the archive showed how the show should have ended. If the leaked script was the original, we can conclude that the producers were forced to rush to rewrite everything. Perhaps this is the logical explanation for some of the inconsistencies presented in the plot.

O awesome.club analyzed the supposed leaked script and made a comparison with the fate that the main characters had at the end of the series. Beware, there are spoilers!

Cersei Lannister

It could have been: murdered by Arya, who would have assumed the appearance of Qyburn and would be in the company of the wolf Nymeria.

How it was: died in Jaime’s arms under the rubble of the Red Keep, after taking refuge within it.

Arya Stark

It could have been: in the first chapter Arya would receive a visit from Jaqen H’ghar, who would give her a vial of poison so that the girl would kill Cersei. She was going to King’s Landing with the Hound. In the fifth chapter, Arya would kill Cersei. In the end, she and the wolf Nymeria would sail towards Essos.

How it was: appeared out of nowhere in a leap and slew the Night King, vanquishing the entire army of the dead. At the end of the series, he begins a journey, sailing into the unknown, west of Westeros.

Theon Greyjoy

It could have been: he would rescue his sister, Yara, but he would die at the hands of his uncle, Euron.

How it was: murdered by the Night King while trying to protect Bran.

Bran Stark

It could have been: in a battle against the Night King’s army, he would control the dragon Rhaegal, but they would both die, murdered by the white walkers. He would be resurrected at the end of the series.

How it was: at the end of the series, he became king of the Six Kingdoms.

Daenerys Targaryen

It could have been: in the second chapter, we would learn that she became pregnant with Jon Snow. In the fourth chapter, Melisandre would meet with her and warn her that in order to gain victory, she would need to sacrifice the child, but the witch would be driven out by the khaleesi. In the fifth chapter, she would give birth in Dragonstone, under the noises of war. However, only mother or baby could survive. Daenerys would decide to save her daughter’s life, who would be named Lyanna, Jon’s biological mother.

How it was: went mad little by little, from the middle of the season. It burned down most of King’s Landing along with its residents. She became queen and revealed her intention to continue waging war to seize territories, losing the trust of most characters. She died in the last chapter, murdered by Jon while kissing him.

Varys

It could have been: he would ease his suffering by driving a sword into his heart. He would die at the hands of a warrior from King’s Landing, who would be protecting the Mother of Dragons.

How it was: executed by Drogon’s fire on Daenerys’ orders, accused of treason.

Samwell Tarly

It could have been: would help deliver and save Daenerys’ baby. She would end the plot by commanding the kingdom of Reach alongside Gilly, who would have become Lady Tarly. Sam had found out that the two would have a child.

How it was: appointed Grand Maester by King Bran.

Davos Seaworth

It could have been: would give the order to kill Melisandre. In the end, he would sail away to find his wife and start a peaceful life.

How it was: became Master of Ships in the service of Bran the Broken.

Jon Snow

King of the Night

It could have been: would methodically and steadily conquer the territories of the living, dying at the end of the season, murdered by Jon Snow.

How it was: He conquered Winterfell and, without haste, made his way to Bran. However, Arya broke the silence of the night by stabbing him with a dagger unexpectedly.

Jaime Lannister

It could have been: would start a romance with Brienne. He would kill Euron, saving Jon Snow from the fatal blow. He would die trying to escape a wildfire blast.

How it was: began a romance with Brienne, but the next day left to try to save Cersei. He killed Euron, but died with his sister under the rubble of the Red Keep.

Brienne of Tarth

It could have been: would heroically fight the forces of the white walkers, but would be badly wounded. She would die in Jaime’s arms.

How it was: ended up in charge of King Bran the Broken’s army.

Jorah Mormont

It could have been: along with Jaime, would go out to rescue Jon Snow, but would die in a wildfire blast.

How it was: was brutally attacked while protecting Daenerys. He died in her arms after the battle.

Sandor Clegane the Dog

It could have been: he would kill his brother, Gregor the Mountain, with fire. So he would help Arya get to Cersei. He would die with Jaime and Jorah, saving Jon Snow.

How it was: trying to kill his brother, he fell into the fire with him and died.

bronn

It could have been: from the beginning, he would fight in the army in defense of the North. In the end, he would refuse to save Jon Snow, realizing that if he did, he would die. He would live on.

How it was: barely appeared this season, and ended up as Lord of Highgarden and Master of Coin in King Bran’s court.

Euron Greyjoy

It could have been: would marry Cersei, but they would still hate each other. He would commemorate Cersei’s death and become ruler of the Six Realms. He would die in battle against Jon Snow and Jaime Lannister at the end of the season.

How it was: killed the dragon Rhaegal, appearing with his entire fleet unexpectedly, surprising Daenerys, who was flying on top of the mythical animal. He was killed by Jaime, but before that, he managed to seriously injure the opponent.

Sansa Stark

It could have been: would give several important orders in the battles against the white walkers. She would start a romance with Gendry. In the end, she would become Lady of Winterfell, while her husband Gendry would become Lord of Storm’s End.

How it was: became Queen of the North.

Tyrion Lannister

It could have been: in the penultimate scene, we could have seen Tyrion as regent of the realm and Hand of Daenerys and Jon’s daughter Queen Lyanna. Together with Missandei, he would take care of the child. “The game of thrones is not child’s play, and you have to pay a high price for it,” Tyrion would say at the end.

How it was: publicly refused to be Queen Daenerys’ Hand after she destroyed King’s Landing. He was sentenced to death, but after the khaleesi’s death, he was chosen Hand of King Bran the Broken.

final scene

It could have been: a lone white walker would carry Bran’s body to an altar. We would see that Stark’s chest would have a dragonglass dagger embedded in it. A certain ritual would be performed, and after that, Bran would open his eyes, which would have gained a bright blue color. The white walker would place the crown on Bran’s head, and the altar would begin to be covered in ice.

How it was: we saw Arya heading west of Westeros; Sansa being crowned Queen of the North; and Bran elected King of the Six Kingdoms, in addition to the reunion between Jon Snow, Tormund and Ghost.
