The account of a mother who had an ectopic pregnancy and the female power to generate a baby after the event

We hear a lot about altruism, often without knowing what it really is. In the dictionary, this word means the “act of loving your neighbor without expecting anything in return”. And one of the most concrete forms of this gesture is when a woman decides to be a mother. Donate your own body to generate a life. It happens that unforeseen circumstances arise. And it is necessary to overcome them to move forward.

This is the case of physical therapist Mayara de Oliveira Ribeiro, 30, who discovered that she was pregnant, but it was an ectopic pregnancy. O awesome.club talked to her to find out what it was like to go through this process. With a moving account of how the woman and her body are powerful and capable of overcoming any adversity until they fulfill their desire to be a mother.

The discovery of ectopic pregnancy

Happiness came to a head when Mayara de Oliveira found out she was pregnant. Two pharmacy tests were done to check if the result was really positive. Running to the nearest clinic for an ultrasound and hearing from the doctor: “it’s still in the beginning, it’s not possible to know where it is housed in the uterus, but your blood results came back positive”, as he detailed when applying the gel on the belly and illustrating what it said on a screen with a gray image.

At 8 weeks, another trip to the doctor. No visualizing the embryo in the uterus. Abdominal pains in Mayara would arise. Something strange was happening. The doctor requested a more specific ultrasound, where it was possible, finally, to visualize the being that was growing there. It turns out that the baby’s development took place in one of the tubes. That’s when an ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed (read about on page 49 here).

The process was painful and self-knowledge

In Mayara’s case, it was necessary to remove the tube where the embryo was housed. For her, this was painful news and difficult to process. The physical therapist underwent a cesarean section. And dealing with the unknown wasn’t easy. “I went through a grieving process. But many did not see it as such. They just asked if my recovery was going well. They didn’t care about my feeling of loss of a child ”, she vented, detailing that both the psychological and the physical are shaken in these cases.

During recovery, fear knocked on the door: “Am I incapable of being a mother? Will I ever be able to get pregnant again?” she questioned. The recovery process is slow and requires patience. Not many moves. Rest. Away from family members by living in another country. And facing your fears even weakened. “My husband supported me. Teamwork had to be put in place,” she detailed.

Inner strength was the best ally for overcoming

When looking for information, Mayara de Oliveira realized that all was not lost and that fears were just unknown obstacles. The dream of being a mother could be fulfilled. But this time, with planning. The health professional needed a hysterosalpingography – a test done to see if the other tube was healthy and, if possible, to have a new pregnancy.

The long awaited pregnancy

For Mayara, it was a huge joy to hear the news. “I believed in my body and in myself. I believed in science. And I overcame my fears,” she underscored as she said she felt proud to become a mother again. On any given outing, a piece of baby clothing was either admired or purchased. Affection came to the surface for a little being so small that it would grow in its mother’s womb.

the birth of honey

Mel Araújo de Oliveira decided to come into the world on May 13, 2020. Mom Mayara gave birth at 8:10 pm, after seven hours of labor. Honey came naturally in a humanized birthing house. The baby was born at 36 weeks, weighing 2,090 kg and 44 cm. Despite her prematurity, she came healthy, with the power and strength of her mother to overcome, dispensing with the need for an incubator. Click here and read the story about Mayara’s birth.

From the birth of Mel, altruism began to become “palpable”. With free breastfeeding, Mayara gives herself every day: whether in food, attention, affection and even the renunciation of activities that were previously part of her routine. Mother’s love and instincts suddenly blossomed. And science has proven that she can be one of a woman’s best allies in pursuit of her goals. Or vice versa. Mel’s smile below proves it.
