Runes: what is and how the millennial oracle works

Have you heard of Runes and know what it is? It is one of the most fascinating oracular systems. The runic alphabet, of Germanic origin, consists of an immense amount of letters printed on stones whose drawing, according to tradition, allows for advice, clarification and predictions.

Despite the remarkable differences that exist between the cultures of the peoples of Earth, it is at least curious to observe that all of them, practically without exception, created some kind of oracle.

Since I Ching of the Far East to the indigenous shamanic oracles, passing through the game of conch shells of African culture and the famous Tarotof unknown origin, we will always find attempts to consult what the symbols have to say about us and about our possible future.

Technically speaking, there is no more efficient or less efficient oracle. What exists are oracular systems with which we more or less identify.

Some people are more attracted to Tarot, others prefer geomancy, many like whelks, but the standard of taste here does not mean that a particular oracle is “better”.

In the case of Runes, many people do not even know that this oracle exists and, when they discover it, they fall in love.

Runes: what is it?

The most widespread Runes in Brazil are of a specific type called “Ancient Futhark”. This is the same type of runic system used in the service Personare’s “Runes and Professional Life”.

It is a system composed of twenty-four symbols that are divided into three families (also called “Aett”).

Runes: how does it work?

Runes, like many other oracles, are not just a technique for predicting the future. They are also an alphabet.

Each rune “letter” has a specific meaning that can be used to answer questions of the most diverse natures, provide varied advice and indicate the most appropriate paths and postures for certain circumstances.

Millennial oracle also involves protection and rituals

Particularly, I have always focused more on the study and application of Tarot, but when we get involved with the study of oracles, we end up being attracted to other systems not only out of a natural curiosity, but also because of the fascinating perception of commonalities between different systems.

When the Runes appeared in my life, back in the 90’s, they fascinated me not only for the clarity of their meanings, but also for the beauty of all mythology that involves the history of this millenary oracle.

It is worth noting that many use the Runes not only as an oracle, but also as a protection symbols, talismans and power letters.

There are specific rituals practiced by scholarsand researcher Mirella Faur describes some in her book “Nordic Mysteries”, a work that I consider the “bible” of the Runes, essential reading for both advanced scholars and beginners in the Nordic oracle mystery.

It is the most complete work in Portuguese, perhaps in the whole world, on this ancient oracle.
