The riding boot has become a classic in the women’s wardrobe. Year in and year out, it is still on the rise and is one of women’s favorite boot models. With some variations in its modeling, the riding boot has a long pipe, usually without heels and, most of the time, has a decorative buckle.
According to style and personal image consultant, Ingrid Burliga Sauer, already in the 18th century some upper-class women wore boots to ride horses, it was then the beginning of mounted models. “The riding boot was created for equestrian practitioners, but soon became a craze among women for comfort and sophistication”, she details.
how to use riding boots
“Riding boots are a must-have in the wardrobe of any woman who loves comfort and fashion,” explains Ingrid. For the consultant, the boot can be used in many situations, from the most relaxed, to the most exquisite occasions.
With the consultant’s help and tips, five looks were put together so that you don’t have any doubts when it comes to matching your boot with some key pieces in your closet.
1. Riding boots and jeans
The riding boots plus skinny jeans combination is, for Ingrid, the most common. “Opt for dark-toned pants to help elongate your silhouette,” she advises. If you want a more formal look, wear it with a shirt and blazer, as suggested below.
2. Riding boots and leggings
Another very common combination is to use the riding boot with leggings. For the consultant, a great way to make the look very current is to wear it with a knitted jacket. The same rule applies to jeans: wear leggings and boots of the same color.
3. Riding boots and shorts
The duo is quite versatile because it can be used on hotter or colder days, just remove or add a pair of tights. For the look to be modern and relaxed, choose colorful shorts and match it with a tank top and denim shirt.
4. Riding boots and skirt
Another option to use the riding boot is with a skirt. The advice given by the consultant is to choose short skirts. “The longer the boot top, the shorter the length of the skirt or dress”, so be careful with the proportions. T-shirts and shirts make good combinations with the skirt. Fun t-shirts help update the look and make it more youthful. The bag does not necessarily have to be the same color as the boot.
5. Riding boots and dress
Following the same rule as above, the riding boot creates a very romantic look when combined with a delicate dress. Flowery prints and more cheerful colors help not weigh down the look. Vests are great complements and help to disguise some fat.
frequently asked questions
Wearing mount boots may not be such a simple task. Combining it with other pieces and at the same time enhancing the silhouette can be an almost impossible mission. To make it easier, the image consultant listed some essential tips for not making mistakes when using a mount boot:
- Use with: use the riding boot with dresses, coats, trench coat, skinny pants, leggings, shorts, short skirts and knits. All these pieces make great combinations with the riding boot.
- Do not wear with: flare pants and pantaloons are not ideal pieces to combine with riding boots. In no way should you wear the boot outside one of these pants, as the modeling is not ideal.
- Who can use it: all women can use the riding boot, however, it is important to take some care so that, when used, the boot does not flatten the silhouette. “You just have to be careful to match the color of the pants with that of the boot”, guides Ingrid.
- Short or plus size women: the tip is to avoid having a contrast between the color of the boot and the piece worn on the leg. “This is the best way to elongate the legs and not flatten the silhouette”, advises the consultant. It should also be noted the size of the barrel that should not exceed the height of the knee. If you want to wear a different color boot, the rest of the outfit must be the same color. “This way you elongate the body in general and maintain the elegance of the look. The best tip is to bet on a monochromatic ‘game’ to stretch”, adds Ingrid.
- Match the color of the boot with the bag or belt: today fashion allows you to play with colors and there is no longer the need to go out with everything matching. Ingrid explains that by combining colors, using tone on tone or varying the textures of accessories, you can even create an elongated silhouette effect.
- Summer riding boots: for the consultant, as the riding boots have a long pipe, it makes the look very hot, which is not appropriate for the summer. Therefore, prefer to wear the boot in the autumn/winter seasons. “But it’s all about style and personality, maybe wearing it in the summer at an event like a concert is fine!”
- Riding boots at social events: depending on the event, they can be used yes, as in a wedding in the countryside combined with a nice dress or trench coat. At work, you can also wear boots, as long as they match a dress or skirt. “The riding boot is more relaxed because it’s low and has a rounded toe, but that doesn’t stop you from using it in various events, it all depends on your style”, stresses the consultant.
- Thick legs: “if the high-top boot is tight on the calf, better not use it”, points out Ingrid.
