The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the coronavirus, requires that we pay more attention to our hygiene care, which can prevent the transmission of the disease. One of the recommendations to contain the spread of the virus in respiratory secretions is the use of a protective mask. Learn how to make your own at home with simple materials!

How to make a protective mask

You will need

  • Cotton cloth
  • Elastic
  • Thread and needle or fabric glue
  • Iron

Step by step

  1. Cut a cotton fabric in a rectangle shape (20 cm x 18 cm or 20 cm x 20 cm);
  2. Make 2 to 3 folds, 1 to 2 cm each, and crease with an iron;
  3. Sew or glue all the edges, not forgetting to put a string or elastic to secure the mask to the face.

This mask is recommended for emergency use and does not dispense with other care, such as washing your hands well and avoiding taking them to your face.
