Organizations in the United States rescue pit bulls that would be put down and train them to be police dogs

Pit bulls are a breed that has long been associated with violent behavior and attacks on children. Perhaps because of this fame, many of these animals end up suffering in the adoption queue at shelters. And when pit bulls are not adopted, they often end up with a very sad fate: they are euthanized.

To prevent this from continuing to happen, some security teams in the United States have started to contact organizations that rescue and train these animals so that they become part of the police.

In that sense, the incredible.club researched more about a project that gives animals a second chance. Check the details below.

A reputation hard to change

In the United States there are bans and restrictions related to pitbulls. In the last 15 years, the breed was the protagonist of 66% of attacks caused by dogs in that country. Because of this, more than 900 cities have created specific legislation that, being super restrictive, can lead to the disappearance of the breed. At least in American territory.

Pitbull owners work to educate the animals and thus avoid further tightening of legislation

Because of the situation described above, the defenders of the race created the organization Protect Pit Bulls from BSL — “Protect Pit Bulls from the Breed Specific Ban🇧🇷 in English translation🇧🇷 They work to prevent the bad reputation of these animals from getting even worse. For this reason, they try to highlight other characteristics of animals, such as obedience and loyalty, two of the best qualities of dogs.

“I started this work because of injustice and prejudice related to pitbulls. I had an American Pitbull Terrier for years and have always been very fond of these dogs. They have a bad reputation because of the owners, sensationalism, ignorance of the media and especially the legislators. Let’s help ban these laws forever!”

Some organizations rescue them and train them to join the police

Other organizations (the Animal Farm Foundation, The Austin Pets Alive and the Universal K9🇧🇷 work together to save pit bulls and come up with training programs that consider their great abilities and don’t look to their past.

Organizations are not interested in the past, but look to the qualities of animals

Most pit bulls end up receiving special training to become part of K-9, the canine unit that works in disasters, saves lives, finds drugs and performs other special missions.

“The dogs help to eliminate the tension that exists between police officers and some communities of people, particularly the younger generations. The program offers a positive solution to some of our country’s toughest problems.”

Many police forces welcome rescued pitbulls

So far, police units that have become partners in the project are Poughkeepsie Police in New York, Chattahoochee Hills in Georgia and Washougal in Washington.

At first, the project did not receive full popular support, but little by little society began to realize that it was yielding good results. What’s your opinion? Share in the comments.
