Meet seven types of spirits from haunted places

The persistence of some spirits in giving ostensible signs of their presence in certain places gave rise to the belief in haunted places. But what kind of spirits live in these places?

– Misers: still attached to earthly interests. They may have hidden their treasures, are not sufficiently dematerialized and continue to watch over them.

– Wanderers: they look for places of their choice, in the same way they did when they were alive, such as beggars, wanderers, etc.

– Sufferers: pain can be relieved with prayer.

– Benevolent: they just want to prove that they are around.

– Levians: cause disturbance and torment and revel in fear. The best thing to do is laugh at them; so they will tire of frightening.

– Punisher: in the place where a crime was committed, they can be forced to stay in the place, so that they constantly have their evil action before their eyes.

– Capricious: some spirits that haunt certain places often do not do so for any reason other than a whim.

– Protectors: there are cases in which they settle down to protect a family, but they never use frightening or unpleasant means.

Either way, this attachment is indicative of inferiority. But this cannot be seen as proof that they are evil. Spirits can have affinity because they are interested in people and want to protect them. They like the presence of men; this is why they look for inhabited places much more than isolated ones.

The imagination can be fed by the dark aspect of certain places and so we attribute to them the presence of hauntings. How many times has fear made the shadow of a tree take for a ghost, the cry of an animal or the breath of the wind for a specter?

We also know that some spirits are misanthropes, that is, they prefer to live in solitude. It is evident that if some remain aloof, it is because it pleases them.

The spirits present themselves preferentially at night, because of the impression that silence and obscurity produce on the imagination. They may also frequent the tombs where their bodies lie; but the vast majority are not attracted to the body that made them suffer, just as the prisoner is not attracted to the cell that held him. The remembrance of those dear to them is the only thing that is of value to them.

It is not rational to fear places haunted by spirits. On the contrary, if you show fear, they will enjoy themselves at the expense of people’s credulity. It is possible to expel them, but depending on the way it is done, they may be more attracted rather than withdrawn. The best way to drive them out is to attract the good ones; for this we must do goodness, since good and evil are incompatible. Be good and you will have good spirits with you.
