Anyone who thinks that the Christmas holidays are over is wrong. We have to dismantle the Christmas tree and put away the decorations. The date to say goodbye to Christmas is January 6th, the Day of the Magi.

The Magi Belchior, Balthazar and Gaspar may not have been kings and it is not even known if they were actually three. It was probably a group of priests from the Zoroastrian religion of Persia or just counselors who had knowledge of astrology. The point is that the meaning of the Three Wise Men goes far beyond facts and history.

According to legend, the African Balthazar, 30, the Asian Gaspar, 15, and the European Belchior, 40, were the first to visit the baby Jesus. They discovered that it was about the birth of a king because of the Star of Bethlehem, and even before setting off in search of Christ, they went to King Herod’s palace in Jerusalem. This one, who knew nothing, felt alarmed and asked the magicians to find him.

Their names already represent the importance of the event: Gaspar means “the one who will inspect”, Belchior, “my king is light”, and Balthazar, “God manifests the king”. They were intended to represent kings from all over the world, so each was of a different ethnicity and age.

The Magi offered three gifts to the baby Jesus: gold, frankincense and myrrh, whose meaning is spiritual symbolism. Gold symbolizes wealth and material power, frankincense represents faith, spirituality and religion and myrrh the purification and cleansing of the spirit.

It is from the gifts of the Magi that the tradition of exchanging gifts at Christmas or the end of the year arises. Let’s take advantage of Kings Day to ask for your blessings and good energies in our requests, through sympathies and prayer.

Prayer to the Magi

O most amiable Santos Reis, Balthazar, Melquior and Gaspar! You were warned by the Angels of the Lord about the coming into the world of Jesus, the savior, and guided to the crib in Bethlehem in Judah, by the divine star in heaven.

O amiable Saints Kings, you were the first to have the good fortune to adore, love and kiss the baby Jesus, and to offer him your devotion and faith, frankincense, gold and myrrh. We want, in our weakness, to imitate you, following the star of truth.

And discovering the baby Jesus, to adore him. We cannot offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh, as you have done. But we want to offer you our contrite heart full of Catholic faith. We want to offer him our life, seeking to live united to his Church. We hope to reach from you the intercession to receive from God the grace that we so much need.

We also hope to achieve the grace of being true Christians. O kind Saint Kings, help us, support us, protect us and enlighten us.

Pour out your blessings on our humble families, placing us under your protection, the Virgin Mary, the Lady of Glory, and Saint Joseph. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the boy in the crib, be always adored and followed by all. Amen!

Sympathy of the apples to guarantee abundance and luck in 2014

On January 6th, before midnight, serve four plates of apples on a new white tablecloth, one for you and one for each wise man. Eat yours. The next day, give a bill of any value and one of the kings’ apples to a child, and another bill and the remaining two apples to a beggar.

Deposit a third bill in a church alms box and keep one bill in your wallet until the end of the year. Then you donate this note and redo the sympathy.

Sympathy of the Magi for good energies

On the Day of the Holy Kings do this spell to bring luck, love, money, peace and the relief of suffering. Write the names of the Magi (Balthazar, Gaspar and Melquior), one next to the other, on the upper frame of the front door of the house. Pray the prayer below for the protection of home and family.

“Just as they brought light to Jesus, may they bring good energies to my home, protecting my family members. Amen”.

Sympathy to clean and protect the house

On January 6th, keep three peeled garlic cloves in a glass of water in the main room of your home or behind the living room door. When the water becomes cloudy, throw it in running water and keep the same garlic, while it is white. It is worth repeating the sympathy throughout the year.

On January 6th, make a white linen bag 7 cm wide and 12 cm high. On the edge, place a beautiful yellow satin ribbon. Fill this bag with raw lentils, raw rice, 16 coins and a small magnet. Then, take the edge of the bag to your mouth and place your orders inside; close the bag making two knots with the yellow ribbon and leave it in a high place, at the entrance of the house. It doesn’t matter whether you show it or hide it.

Kings spell to have money

This sympathy of the Magi is to have money all year round. First, place a pomegranate inside a red cloth bag and offer it to the three Magi. Then place it behind the room door. This sympathy should only be done on the day of the Three Wise Men, January 6th.

Take a pomegranate and remove nine seeds asking the three wise men, Baltasar, Belchior and Gaspar, that this year that begins you have good health, love, peace and money. Then take three of the nine seeds and keep them in your wallet so you never run out of money. The other three you swallow. And the last three left you throw back making the request you want.

Open a bottle of sparkling wine and fill your glass. Take a cellophane paper or simply a golden paper and cut it into a square that can be very small (5 cm by 5 cm) and leave it on the table next to you.

Cut a pomegranate in half. Take your glass of sparkling wine and salute the Mago Baltazar saying “Hail Saint Baltazar” and raising the glass. Then, drink a sip of sparkling wine. Put a pomegranate seed in your mouth and wipe it all off until only the seed remains, without any pulp around it. Then, take the seed and place it on the golden paper.

Raise the cup again and salute the Magician Melchior and repeat the entire process. Do the same for the Wizard King Gaspar. When you put all 3 seeds on the paper, fold it so that it is neatly folded and closed and put it in your wallet in a place that will stay all year, quiet and untouched.

The following year, when you redo the spell, bury the old paper in the garden, do the spell and put it in your wallet to attract good energies throughout the year.
