Junino wedding: they chose to exchange rings at the festival itself

Who has been to one June celebration traditional knows well that one of the most classic moments of the festival is the wedding hour. It is usually done as a joke, along with the square dance, and unites couples that usually last according to the time of the party.

But, if you are about to get married in fact, how about changing the traditional ceremony for one June wedding for real, made for couples who are going to spend good years of their lives side by side?

Weird? Unusual? Well know that’s what they did Tatiana Munizengineering student, and Bruno Motta, seller. Living together since January 2012, they had the old dream of marriage hammering day after day in their heads.

That same year, during a trip with three other couples of friends – aware of the desire of the lovebirds -, Tati and Bruno were surprised by a cute gesture coming from the group: the friends had bought a pair of rings as a gift, so that the couple would soon make the union official.

The idea

With wedding rings in hand, Tatiana and Bruno began to think even more about the wedding, but at the time money was tight and would not be enough to pay for a party with around 300 people present – as the two knew a lot of people, cutting out many names from guest list wasn’t quite an option.

It was there that Tati, respecting her tight budget, had the brilliant idea of making a June themed wedding🇧🇷 The groom, who is also a fan of the parties of Santo Antônio, São João and São Pedro, accepted the challenge right away, and the preparations began to roll.

The space chosen for the couple’s festival was the Association of Residents of Santa Eugenia, in Nova Iguaçu (Rio de Janeiro), and the party took place on August 25 of that year. What do you mean, Festa Junina in August?

Calm down, we’ll explain: in 2012, this was the only date available on the venue’s agenda. So, Tati and Bruno, who couldn’t wait any longer for the official “I do”, scheduled their June wedding two months after the holiday season. The dream came true and had everything that is most typical.

Starting with the menu:

Sweets, such as quindim, apple of love and brigadeiro, emblematic foods such as different types of cheese, soups, popcorn, cake – corn and cornmeal -, hot dogs, green corn, couscous, paçoca, cocada and a traditional wedding cake , for the bride and groom’s toast, were the great delicacies of the night.

To drink, nothing more than the basics: guests helped themselves to beer, soda, water and, as in any good June party, as much as they wanted.

bridal look

As for the costumes, Tati insisted on being one of the most “country” brides, and asked for help from one of her aunts, a seamstress, to put together her bridal look. In the end, everything turned out to be very cheap: “I only paid for the lace, my dress cost about 250 reais at most!” MofWoman🇧🇷

An important detail of the bride’s look cannot be overlooked: while she opted for classic white pumps for the ceremony, at the time of the party, Tati threw the formality away and walked with a pair of comfortable booties. After all, nothing to do with square dancing in high heels, right?

The bride’s bouquet, all handcrafted, was made by herself.

For Bruno’s production, no suit and tie: a plaid shirt with rolled-up sleeves, jeans and the famous straw hat did the trick. Oh! Don’t think that the guests escaped the June look, see? Everyone followed the proposal to the letter and were dressed in character:

“Some of them only understood that it was a real wedding when they got there, because no one had ever been to a wedding like this – not even us”, confesses Tati.

DIY

And if the whole party was built on a “do it yourself” basis, the decoration, one of the highlights of a June celebration, followed the same rules. Tati says that a lot of internet research was necessary until they defined the party’s decor, largely due to the reduced budget.

With good doses of creativity, she created an ornament of candles, using expired cooking oil, placed on the guest tables along with empty and decorated wine bottles (which she and Bruno brought from a hotel where they stayed). That alone already gave that air of romanticism to the room.

To complete the decoration, a lot of little flags, obviously, natural flowers and some arrangements, made by the bride herself with a helping hand from friends and helpful relatives, guaranteed the June atmosphere (even in August). There was even a bouncy castle and distribution of soap bubbles, both for children and adults.

“I loved my party! Everyone had fun, danced (there was a square!) and ate a lot too, there were lots of delicacies. We liked the idea so much that our son’s baby shower (in June 2016) and his one year birthday (in 2017) were also a party!”, says the bride.

Tati’s valuable tip, for couples who want to bet on the rustic theme at their wedding, involves three pillars: do a lot of research, get your hands dirty and, finally, get ready to have fun.

“It was all simple and improvised, but with lots of love! This cannot be missing, whatever the theme of the wedding!”, she concludes, moved.

Long live Santo Antônio, São Pedro, São João… and long live the love of Tati and Bruno!
