Joker pieces for a more functional wardrobe

Dear ones, I’ve been doing some work these last few weeks in which a curious fact has been repeated: my clients, all beautiful, have wonderful pieces in their closets, with powerful prints, seasonal colors, pieces with good fit, good quality. But even so, they still feel they have nothing to wear.

So it is! The big problem in these wardrobes was the lack of supporting or connecting pieces, those basic pieces that make it possible to coordinate the other printed ones, with shine, bows, details and everything else in a harmonious and flawless way.

There are few people who master the art of combining prints and strong colors with each other and few places that allow the more extravagant looks that these coordinations often create. Therefore, it is essential for anyone to have these basic and neutral items, even wildcard pieces, in the closet to form looks more easily, making the wardrobe work better.

I’m from the group that thinks that there’s not much of a recipe for every wardrobe, that each person has a different routine and style, and so also key pieces that work differently. However, there are the basics that cannot be missing from most closets, and these are the ones I list below:

Black or dark dress/tailor pants

Dark pants are the wild card for any woman who works (and I think for those who don’t too!). It looks good with a basic and all-star t-shirt, with a shirt and pumps, with a silk blouse and boots, from a job interview to a club… in short, it fits from A to Z in life and allows practically any color, print or detail on top and accessories. Is that good?

If you don’t like long pants, you can opt for a cigarette that is super current and elegant too and if you’re not a fan of black, lead gray or beige are also neutral colors that work with almost everything and make this piece’s ways- wildcard.

It can be pencil, tulip, A-shaped, or the model that looks best for your silhouette. Tailoring then, you can’t go wrong. The black skirt replaces the pants at times when you want to be more feminine, when the weather is warmer and in winter with pantyhose works super well too, without losing seriousness and elegance.

They also match from work shirts to blouses in fine fabrics such as crepe, silk or satin for a more formal dinner or party. To keep it stylish, opt for knee length or no more than 3 inches above it.

Basic blouses in all colors

You know that time when you want to wear your sparkly skirt, a studded vest, plaid pants, a summer dress on that chilly day and so on? Then! The basic blouse is perfect for these more complicated pieces to match, which have prints, sparkles, transparencies and the like.

To put under blazers and cardigans? They are also great. And under that half-sheer crepe shirt? Tank top with square neckline is a sure shot! With jeans and flat sandals? A white T-Shirt is the most classic pair there is.

Everyone has to have at least one white and one black, preferably with a square or round neckline. These two can be sleeveless or with a T-Shirt sleeve, but they should be tighter to be able to wear underneath.

It’s also nice to have long sleeves and turtlenecks, which look great under 50s-style dresses, knit sweaters, leather jackets and all. Once you have these two colors, you can invest in others as the pieces in your closet require.

A well-cut, quality blazer saves any woman’s life. Over dresses, with a basic t-shirt and jeans, with dress pants, with a skirt and now even with shorts, it composes the look, warms up in winter, complements in summer and is hyper elegant.

Invest in a black, lead or navy and then, if you like it, look for other colors that match what you already have at home. Oh, and once you’ve secured your wildcard blazer, look for something in the trench-coats department too: more classic coats impossible, in addition to being very versatile and elegant. What about?

“wildcard” bag

There are a lot of people who have bags of all kinds, with fringes, studs, bows, threads, zippers, embroidery, sports, canvas and the like, but they don’t have that basic, discreet and neutral that goes with everything and ends up with any problems with coordination.

I love colorful bags with details too, but I think we have to have that wildcard, which works with everything and all the time, before investing in any other.

The joker bag, made of leather, without many details and more structured, goes from work to the mall without affectation, with any color of shoes and other accessories. For some people it’s black, but it can be dark brown or caramel and even navy blue. Choose yours, but be sure to have this lifesaver bag in your closet!

Classic pumps or boots

With this fashion statement shoes, shoes full of personality, many people forgot to have in their closet that classic shoe, which goes with everything and goes from formal to informal, from print to shine and from day to night without major worries.

Yes, we are talking about the traditional high heel pumps, made of leather and without or with minimal details. The thinner the heel and toe, the more sophisticated it is, and there is no woman who doesn’t look more elegant with it.

The same goes for the pointed toe boots and thin heels, today they can also be replaced by riding boots or sneakers for those who prefer more comfort, or even an oxford with heels, why not? As long as they are very “clean” and of great quality!

Anyway folks, I could mention a few more pieces, but I believe that each one has its essentials for their lifestyle, right? The important thing is to always think that it is necessary to have links between one wonderful piece and another, so as not to run the risk of wearing a leopard with a zebra with glitter and ruffles and being hyper over, or ending up with a closet full of “main actors” and not knowing how to put them on stage.
