It’s St. Valentine’s Day, the saint of valentines; understand

February 14 is marked by romance in countries like France, the United States and England. That’s because Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated, the saint of valentines.

It is worth remembering that in Brazil, Valentine’s Day is celebrated on June 12, as it is the eve of Saint Anthony’s Day, the matchmaker saint. But in reality, the milestone began as a way for commerce to circumvent the downtime that was the month of June.

Saint Valentine

Despite the traditional exchange of gifts, few know the history of this saint. Valentine was a bishop in Rome, at a time when marriages were prohibited, as the government believed that if people did not have a family, they would enlist in the army more easily.

Even so, the bishop was against this idea and continued to perform marriages in secret, but when Emperor Chaldeans II found out, he had him arrested. In prison, couples threw flowers and notes dedicated to Valentine to show their faith in love.

One day, Valentine received a visit from the jailer’s daughter, Asterias, who was young and blind. The two fell in love and the love made her regain her sight.

On February 14, 286, he was taken to the so-called via Flaminia, where he was clubbed to death and then beheaded. Valentine’s grave was found in 346, in an underground chapel on Via Flaminia. Ten centuries later, ancient records indicated him as the brother of Saint Zeno. Today, his relics are in the Church of Saint Praxedes in an Oratory dedicated to Saint Zeno and Valentine.

He became holy because he died for the testimony of his priesthood. The church considers him the patron saint of lovers for having defended the sacrament of marriage with his life.

“Saint Valentine, patron of love, cast your kind eyes on me. Prevent curses and emotional inheritances from my ancestors and mistakes I have made in the past from disturbing my affective life. I want to be happy and make people happy. Help me to enter in tune with my soul mate, so that we can enjoy love, blessed by divine providence. I ask for your powerful intercession, together with God and Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen”.

Saint Valentine’s Prayer for Reconciliation

“O Jesus Christ, our savior, who came into the world for the good of men’s souls, but who did so many miracles to give health to the body and love to passionate souls. in the fire; that you freed him who was hiding among the tombs of the cemetery; that you expelled the evil spirits of the possessed who foamed; I ask you, through Saint Valentine, the saint of valentines, to whom you gave the power to heal those who suffer of love, the reconciliation of my marriage. Amen!”
