Is sleeping with makeup really bad?

The scene is familiar: you come home exhausted and think: “Oh, I’m just going to sleep with my makeup on today. Tomorrow I make up for it by taking good care of my skin.” Wrong! Very wrong!

Sleeping with makeup causes several problems: you can get allergies, pimples, eye irritation. It’s not until the next day that you come to the conclusion that those 10 minutes you “saved” only left unsightly marks on your skin. Pay attention to the following column, you will see that a care ritual is delicious and very beneficial.

Why is sleeping in makeup so bad?

Sleeping in makeup is one of the biggest mistakes we women can make. The products clog pores and do not allow the dermis to breathe properly. In the medium term, the skin will lose its viscosity, its shine, it will become more oily and aging will end up being accelerated. That’s not what you want, is it?

Spending too much time with the products on your face only increases the risk of a contact allergy. Even mineral makeup, which causes less allergy because its particles are very small, is harmful to the skin if not removed, as the pores close up and the skin does not breathe as it deserves. It’s only worth sleeping with night creams, always recited by your dermatologist.

Step one: Invest in a good makeup remover

The ideal is to have a good quality make-up remover for the face and another specific one for the eye area (pencil, eyeliner, eyelash mask and shadows) these products are well pigmented and therefore their removal is much more complicated. This product is great because it doesn’t leave makeup residue.

Important tips: if you are away from home or traveling, it is worth using baby shampoo to wash your face. And 12 hours is the limit of time your skin can be made up. More than that is an exaggeration. And overdoing it clogs the pores and causes all that skin damage you read above.

Cleaning step by step

Start with the eyes. Put eye makeup remover on a cotton ball and close your eyes. Apply gently and never with your eyes open so you don’t irritate or take makeup leftovers into their inner area. The cool thing is that you have patience and repeat the process until you feel that you are out of products in your eyes.

After that, take a clean cotton and apply the face makeup remover. Same thing: only stop the process when you feel that everything is clean.

Then wash with soap and water (suitable for your skin). Pat dry and apply a toner, which helps balance the skin’s pH. If you use night cream, only after that you can spread it.

To get beautiful skin, bet on:

  1. Biphasic makeup remover (which has a liquid part and an oily part), that’s because it helps to remove any type of makeup without causing irritation.
  2. Good quality makeup. Saving at this time can make you take home a product that causes allergies. It’s also worth looking at the expiration date on the product. Never use anything expired.
  3. Right products for your skin type. If it’s oily, always use oil-free products. If you have combination skin, choose oil-controlling ones. If it’s dry, opt for the creamy ones. Your dermatologist can (and should) help you in this mission.
  4. Products with sunscreen. Today, makeup also treats the skin. It’s all good to leave your skin beautiful from the inside out.

Don’t put off visiting the dermatologist

At the very least, you should check in twice a year and tell your beauty routine. It is the doctor’s job to explain to you what is wrong and what can be improved in your routine. And it’s your job to follow these cares right, your skin will thank you.
