Pompoarismo is an ancient art of moving the vagina in unusual ways. This practice improves intimate health, preventing and treating diseases, in addition to being known for its sexual benefits. The instruments of pompoarism were created many years ago in the East. That’s why we have different instruments, because each one of them will work different motor skills of our vagina. Throughout my career, however, I have been able to observe that women’s intimate areas undergo changes over the years. We go through the same signals, as if our vaginas received information in the collective, and we modify them equally. Realizing this, I noticed the need to remove some instruments, because, if misused, they could harm the woman instead of helping. That’s why in the workshop we currently perform all the skills of the vaginal musculature – also called MAP – using only two instruments.

It is an instrument that normally has two balls the size of ping-pong balls, but depending on the progress of the pompoar player, there may be more. These balls have other metals inside that, when they move inside the vaginal canal, cause vibration. They are connected by a string and have another piece of string that is outside the vagina, serving as a puller to help get the ball out. The little bells that are inside the ball cause a vibration that activates the vagina’s reflex to contract involuntarily.

The vaginal cone has different weights, which are worked on as in the gym, from the cone most suited to your strength, gradually increasing. However, I see in practice today that a vagina with extreme tension can mask strength. With that, it ends up pointing to a weight that is sometimes bigger, which increases the tension even more.

Currently, with the practice of so many students and patients, I observe the need to work with the bem-wá and with the personal instead of the vaginal cone and the Thai necklace, although it is optional for each one. When working with the vaginal cone, the main skills worked on are resistance and muscle strength.

With the vaginal cone being placed like a tampon, you will have to make an effort to keep it inside the vaginal canal, contracting the vagina so that it does not fall. If you don’t have to work hard to make this happen, then you need a heavier weight. The perfect grammage is the one you need to strive to hold in the vagina. With your legs half-open, hold as long as you can without letting the cone fall. Keep timing your evolution day by day.

Instrument contraindications

You cannot use the instruments when you are a virgin, due to the possibility of breaking the hymen. Instruments should also be avoided by pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy. But it is worth mentioning that, even if they are performed after that, you must ask for medical authorization. The instruments, along with the exercises, can speed up labor out of hours, if it is a risky pregnancy.

Pompoarism benefits the urinary tract, improving the health of women who frequently have urinary tract infection (cystitis). However, while you are showing signs of infection, you should avoid performing the exercises.

Women who have vaginal atrophy, whether due to advanced age, sexual disuse or post-cancer or chemotherapy body responses, need a medical or physiotherapeutic evaluation, one should self-assess. In the case of using the instruments, you must be very careful not to hurt the area that is sensitive, giving preference to the personal one over the other instruments in the first weeks of training.

Another resource is to perform gynecological physiotherapy in order to increase the resistance of the vaginal mucosa, and only then use the instruments. Burning and redness, however, can happen in the first few days, and then instrument exercises increase resistance in a positive way. But it takes a professional assessment to say that everything is within the expected range.

Women who experience pain during sexual intercourse, which we call dyspareunia, should avoid instruments and look for a gynecological physiotherapist to help correct the condition. This indication also applies to vaginic women – who cannot have vaginal penetration -, as the vagina contracts involuntarily, preventing penetration and also causing pain.

During menstruation, the uterus is more open and the entire region more susceptible, so it is preferable to avoid instrument training during this period. However, it is not an absolute contraindication. Some women who are in good health choose to train during this period on purpose to help regulate menstruation, increase menstrual flow, decrease bleeding days, as well as treat menstrual cramps.

If you have candidiasis, itching or burning, avoid training with instruments due to their friction with the mucosa. Seek a medical opinion, treat yourself and then resume your training normally, as pompoarism always helps to improve intimate health and support any gynecological treatment.

How to clean and store instruments

The instruments can be washed with neutral soap, dried and stored in a bag or case that you have chosen for your kit.
