How to make homemade air freshener

It is possible to leave your home smelling in the right measure and spending little with the creation of homemade flavorings. If they are made with care and creativity, they also become a beautiful decorative option for the environment.

But does not stop there! If you’re looking for another good reason to join air fresheners, you’ll love to know that, much more than providing a pleasant smell, they help attract good energy to your home.

According to Feng Shui, a lemon flavoring, for example, is revitalizing and brings joy to the environment. The aroma of cinnamon has the power to whet the appetite, stimulate dialogue and happiness, so it can be perfectly placed in a dining room.

An orange flavoring provides a relaxing and calming effect and is a great choice for use in the TV room. The eucalyptus aroma favors concentration and can be placed in a study room or office.

In the kitchen, which is an environment where there is usually a great mix of smells, the recommendation is to bet on citrus aromas, such as orange, lemon or tangerine. Mint is also a good option, it attracts peace and that feeling of comfort.

In the bedrooms, the aroma of lavender can purify the energies and acclaim. Musk, on the other hand, is indicated to create moments of intimacy. But these are just a few examples, there are many scents out there that can make a difference in your home!

Check out some ideas below and prepare your homemade air freshener, spending little and, most importantly, leaving your home with great energy:

Prepare:

Combine the ingredients in a pan and wait for it to boil. When it starts to smell pleasant, take it off the heat. Pour the mixture into a beautiful pot or glass, preferably colored – which you can easily find in popular stores –, and leave it in the space you want to perfume.

2. Lemon and rosemary flavoring

Use:

  • 1/4 thinly sliced apple
  • 1 small lemon in slices
  • 1 small sprig of fresh rosemary
  • Water
  • 1 glass jar (can be jam, for example)
  • 1 ceramic fondue set

Prepare:

Place the apple, lemon and rosemary in the glass jar. Pour hot water over them (just before boiling). Light the candle on the fondue device and carefully place the uncovered pot on top. Another practical tip is to use the ceramic pot that comes with the device instead of the glass pot. The flavoring is ready! As it heats up, the natural fragrance is released. But it is worth noting that the aromatizer must be monitored, that is, it is not worth turning on the device and leaving the house, after all, we are dealing with fire.

3. “Gel” Flavoring

Use:

  • 2 glasses of water
  • 4 packets of unflavored gelatin
  • 15g to 20g of your favorite essence
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • food coloring
  • Glass jar

Prepare:

Heat a glass of water. Mix the essence and coloring of your choice and, as soon as the mixture comes to a boil, turn off the heat. Mix the unflavored gelatin and salt until completely dissolved. Add the second glass of cold water and stir carefully. Pour the liquid into one or more glass jars and let it cool to harden. You can put it in the fridge if you want it to harden faster.

4. Flower flavoring

Use:

  • 1 glass container
  • Coarse salt
  • oranges
  • cloves

Prepare:

Peel the orange into a single strip and roll it up like a flower. Make at least three of the same. In the glass container, put 1 or two 2 fingers of coarse salt and arrange the orange flowers on top. Then, garnish with the Indian carnations. Dried leaves and flowers can also be used. The homemade flavoring is ready!

5. Flavoring in the lamp

A different tip, but one that can work, is to turn a lamp in your house, for example, the one in the living room, into an environment flavouring.

Use:

  • 1 light bulb
  • 1 small piece of cotton
  • your favorite essence

Prepare:

When the lamp is cool, uninstall it. Using the piece of cotton, soak the lamp (outside, in the glass only) with your favorite essence. Let it dry completely and install it again. When you turn it on, the heat of the light will make the smell come out.

6. Flavoring with toothpicks

Use:

  • 200 to 250 ml of grain alcohol
  • 50 ml of water
  • 50 ml of essence
  • 10 ml of fixative
  • coloring to taste
  • Barbecue sticks (with the ends cut off)
  • 1 pot (it can be a bottle of liquid soap that has already finished, for example)

Prepare:

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and place in the freezer for 5 days to macerate. If it is not possible to put it in the freezer, just let it macerate in a closed bottle in a dark place for 10 days. Place in the jar and include the sticks. Whenever possible, turn the sticks, so that the aroma “circulates” better.

Important tips for using homemade flavorings

It is a fact that air fresheners create a fragrant atmosphere in the home, office or shop. However, the choice of perfume should be careful, avoiding those that are too strong and that can bother people who are allergic to perfumes. The tip is especially valid for environments that receive a lot of people – such as stores, for example.

At home, choose to place the air freshener in wider environments, for example, in the living room – where visitors are also received. Avoid placing it in rooms, where residents stay for many hours at a time, as the smell can cause nausea and/or headaches.

Another interesting tip is to put an air freshener in the bathrooms, leaving the space with a more pleasant smell. But common sense also applies here, it is not necessary to exaggerate the perfume by opting for very striking essences.

Did you like the tips? Now it’s up to you! Reuse items you have at home and use your creativity to create beautiful scents that will leave your home smelling super nice.
