Ho’oponopono: 7 questions about the technique that can heal relationships

Ho’oponopono means “to correct a mistake” or “to put in perfect order”. In the Hawaiian language, the word is defined by:

Ho’o = “cause” ponopono = “straighten, arrange, alter, revise, adjust, correct, order”

This technique was founded by Mrs. Kahuna Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona (May 19, 1913 – February 11, 1992), who, by studying Hawaiian traditions, ended up creating and updating the foundations of these teachings for modern times.

She idealized the Ho’oponopono of Own Identity, which, in a different way from the Ho’oponopono Huna, brings us a work proposal at the intrapersonal level of self-healing.

Ho’oponopono Huna is a Hawaiian ritual used by ancient priests to solve problems in society, based on reconciliation, healing and forgiveness.

Through simple sentences, (in this video you learn how to use the mantra: “I’m sorry. Forgive me. I love you. Thank you”) Self Identity Ho’oponopono can heal relationships and resolve troubled relationships in your life – whether parents, siblings, friends, co-workers or significant other.

Although these are simple phrases, some doubts about the subject always arise and, therefore, I bring the main ones here.

It is worth making it clear that I used as a basis experiences carried out in groups or in therapies given by me.

1 – Is Ho’oponopono a religious practice?

Ho’oponopono is a simple and effective technique for relationships, not a religious practice.

The proposal is to take responsibility for the events in our lives and repeat the phrases: “I am really sorry. Forgive me. I love you. Thanks” (If you want to know more about how to do this, watch the video).

The mantra is directly related to values such as compassion, humility, love, gratitude.

The goal is to help you understand that your problems are memories that replay in your subconscious.

Therefore, the difficulties you have have nothing to do with a person, place or situation.

Everything that bothers you is entirely your responsibility, only you can change it. As you experience repeated conflicts, from reenacted memories, you can stay involved with them or choose to do it differently.

2 – How many times do you need to repeat the mantra?

Phrases can be used in any sequence you want and as many times as you want. If you feel like a single time is enough, believe me, it’s what you need. I’ve seen almost immediate successes with clients of mine who have only done Ho’oponopono once.

3 – Does Ho’oponopono only work if I say the mantra out loud?

The technique works whether we speak the phrases out loud or mentally, it doesn’t matter.

4 – Do the results take a long time to appear?

I realize, over the years, that the results depend on the determination / truth with which we recite the phrases.

Another important point is to try to free yourself completely from expectations regarding how quickly the effects will appear in your life.

And always remember: achieving the “miracle” proposed by the technique is directly related to detachment, love, acceptance, truth and gratitude.

5 – Does Ho’oponopono require a ritual to be performed?

It is not necessary any kind of ritual to practice the technique.

6 – Do I need to repeat the mantra around the person I have problems with?

We can be close, looking at the person, or distant from them – even in another country. We should repeat the phrases – out loud or mentally – whenever we see something unpleasant in our lives.

The main thing is to assume that if any conflicting relationships are in your life, then the situation is your responsibility. After all, you only recognize what you know. And if something is bothering you, it’s because you know it, it’s in your unconscious or even your conscious.

7 – Can I do Ho’oponopono for someone I don’t know?

We can and should recite the phrases of self-responsibility and self-healing for everything and everyone.

For example, if I’m watching the news and I see bad news that moves or bothers me, I take the opportunity to speak or mentalize the mantra in relation to that situation.

If my desire is to live in peace, I take every opportunity to purify in myself the possible beliefs in my unconscious that make me identify with that news.

Let’s remember that the situations that bring strong emotions, mainly, are identification signs. That is, there is something within you that finds some kind of recognition with what is being shown.

Therefore, you are in a position to integrate these situations or emotions through your forgiveness and love.

Reflect and practice! A more loving world begins to come true through your commitment to love. Peace begins within you!
