Grandson takes 2 years preparing a birthday present for his grandfather

Cam Dedman is a simple young man from the State of Kentucky, USA, who decided to make a special surprise for his grandfather, Fred Lamar’s 81st birthday. Cam wanted to thank his grandfather for his dedication to taking care of the family and committed to fulfilling an old dream of his. However, for this, the boy had to sell his own car. But in the end, it was worth it!

Fred Lamar worked for many years for the well-being of the family, putting his own needs and desires in the background. For a long time, he wanted to fix his car, but he did not have the money to fulfill this dream. Fred has also always been a loving father and grandfather and, for his grandson Cam, he ended up becoming a true friend as well. When Cam matured and gained financial independence, he decided to turn his grandfather’s idea into reality.

The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was once considered Chevrolet’s most expensive model. But this vehicle, after 30 years of inactivity in Fred’s garage, had become scrap metal.

To breathe new life into the car, Cam had to work hard and save money for several years, but when he realized that the amount collected was still not enough, he sold his own car. However, Cam assures that it was worth it.

In the fall of 2016, Cam started restoring his grandfather’s old car. Although he was helped by a team of professionals, the work took up all his free time. Also, Cam had to work hard to keep everything he was doing a secret from his grandfather for a year.

Undoubtedly, it was not in vain! During that year, Cam and his team managed not only to restore the car, but also to incorporate all of Fred’s wishes, wishes that he had mentioned in conversations with his grandson.

In his account on the social network, Cam wrote: “He is my best friend and he really deserves it.”

Cam didn’t want to wait for the ‘official’ date to arrive: 2 days before the birthday, he gathered the whole family to deliver the present to his grandfather. “He nearly fainted,” Cam said of his grandfather’s condition when he saw his fully restored 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Fred even burst into tears: he no longer dreamed of getting behind the wheel of his beloved car. A little later, he said that he was sure that his grandson had done his best.

Shortly after, Cam managed to fulfill his own dream: he set up a car workshop where, together with his team, he began to dedicate himself to restoring retro cars. Sometimes, Fred helps him and the two continue to maintain their great friendship. Cam devotes all of his free time to his wife and young son because, like his grandfather, he is first and foremost a family man.
