6 benefits of glycerin in hair that will make your strands even more beautiful!

Okay, we already know how to use glycerin on hair. But what benefits will it bring to the wires? Dr. Lorena Visentainer (CRM 179092), our invited dermatologist, brings this information. She checks it out:

  1. Helps in hydration: glycerin has the power to attract water and is therefore responsible for hydrating, lubricating and wetting the wires.
  2. Prevents the drying of the wires: by helping to hydrate the hair, the substance can make the wires less dry.
  3. Leaves the wires more defined: due to its moisturizing effects, glycerin has the power to define the wires and is even more powerful to model curls.
  4. Reduces frizz: with less dry and more defined hair, frizz is therefore also smoothed out.
  5. Decreases hair breakage: the substance makes the hair more resistant to external aggressions, which reduces hair breakage.
  6. Reduces the formation of split ends: and finally, with less brittle strands, split ends will also give you a break!

All these benefits, according to the specialist, come mainly from the potential of glycerin to “pull” water. Therefore, it is recommended that the substance be used preferably on humid days or in conjunction with water-based products, preventing the hair from losing water instead of retaining it.

Dermatologist clarifies doubts about glycerin in hair

To clear up any remaining doubts, Dr. Lorena Visentainer (CRM 179092) gave us some more details. The following answers the main questions on the subject:

What is glycerin for hair? According to the doctor, glycerin serves to moisturize the hair. However, she informs that it is more common that it is used with bases or additional formulas, because alone it can have the opposite effect to the hydration.

Does Glycerin Reduce Dandruff? According to Dr. Lorraine, glycerin does not fight or reduce dandruff. She explains: “In the case of dandruff, substances that are capable of reducing the oiliness of the scalp or treating diseases that may be happening should be used” – and ends by warning that, in severe cases, the ideal is to seek a dermatologist.

Is glycerin in hair bad for you? If used on the length of the wires and in conjunction with water-based products, it won’t do any harm. However, if applied directly to the scalp, it can cause irritation or increase oiliness, which can even lead to hair loss.

Does glycerin work to straighten hair? for Dr. Lorena, hair can appear smoother with the use of the substance, as it is able to reduce frizz and make it “heavier”.

How often is it recommended to use glycerin on hair? There is no frequency to be recommended, according to the doctor. What she says about it is, “I suggest doing it along with hair hydration, once a week.”

If used as recommended, glycerin will make your hair even more beautiful. So enjoy and share the article with those who still have doubts and help spread healthy beauty!
