The other day I read a sentence that said something like this: “Don’t treat as a priority those who only treat you as an option”, and I kept thinking about the shallow loves that I see around every now and then.

I have seen many unequal relationships, and as much as one side lives with hope, in the childish expectation that everything can change in the blink of an eye, it is necessary to see the facts as they are.

I’ve heard the story a lot: “We don’t choose who we’re going to love”, but is it really that? Can we not choose what to do with ourselves when we are in love?

The heart is not always right, and we can get into a “punctured canoe” for the simple difficulty of being loving with ourselves.

No love should hurt. No love should impose anguish and suffering. No love should make you doubt whether the other feels love and joy in your company.

I do believe that we choose who to love. And we often repeat mistakes because we don’t learn to be kind and generous to those we should put first: ourselves.

Fall in love with someone who loves your company and chooses to be with you in the hot sun or in the cold rain. Someone who misses you and shows that they need your hug at any time of the day.

Fall in love with someone who likes you, who appreciates your ideas and admires your actions. Someone who doesn’t hesitate to walk beside you and doesn’t intend to keep her to himself.

Fall in love with someone who assumes they love you, someone who is proud to have been captivated by you.

Fall in love with someone who values your gestures and listens to your opinion. Someone who always wants you around, and who misses you if you take too long.

Fall in love with someone who gives you security, someone whose attitudes say more than a thousand “I love you” recited out of the box; someone who makes it worth it, because you know it’s not every day that you can find someone like you.

Fall in love with someone who loves your laugh and wants to have all your quirks with you; someone who sees you as a special person and doesn’t hesitate to have you as company.

Fall in love with someone who overlooks your mood swings and revels in your euphoria; someone who holds your hand tight in a turmoil and celebrates victories with joy.

Fall in love with someone who isn’t afraid to commit and love; someone who has no debts or doubts, and who is willing to make your meeting a special story.

Fall in love with someone who won’t give up on you when you run out of money, when the recipe for that pie goes wrong, when you feel sick, when a silly fight drives you both apart.

Fall in love with someone you don’t have to insist on staying with; someone who wants to be by your side out of will and pleasure; someone who is absolutely certain that he made the right choice in wanting you…
