Colored pants: learn how to wear and not miss

Colored pants are a great alternative when you want to give a different face to any look. The color helps to modernize and make traditional pants more youthful. Depending on the color, you can create a more relaxed look or a more sophisticated look.

The piece appears in the 80s, however, only women wore it, according to the personal and business image consultant, Maria Valentina Ferreira. “In 1990 they became more popular, being used by both men and women.”

For a while, colorful pants were forgotten, even getting the tacky label. “From 2010, they returned with more force, on the catwalks and in the streets”, adds Maria Valentina.

Today, colored pants are a fundamental part of every woman’s wardrobe, regardless of age. “Fashion has become more democratic every day, so combining colored pants depends more on personal style than on rules,” says image and fashion consultant Karla Alves.

how to wear colored pants

Quite democratic, colorful pants are easy to match, however, you need to take some care. “When you wear colored pants, they are the main focus of the look. All other items in your production should be more discreet, so as not to overdo it”, warns Maria Valentina.

“For the most classic ones, the ideal is to combine them with pieces of neutral colors, such as white, black, nude, gray and earth tones. For more hipsters, combining them with printed pieces gives a modern and creative air. Wearing them with jeans is also a great option”, is Karla’s suggestion.

Another guideline given by Maria Valentina is for women who prefer to be more discreet, opt for pants with more neutral colors, such as pastel tones: mint green, blue and baby pink, yellow and lighter orange. “Pants in these colors are perfect for more feminine and romantic looks,” she points out.

outfit suggestions

Three looks were created according to the consultants’ tips. For look 1, the colored pants are in burgundy, the traditional new wine, which goes well for both winter and summer. For the look to be, at the same time, cheerful and discreet, complement it with a more discreet blouse in beige, nude or off-white, shoes and bag also in nude and a more colorful earring to finish off. If you want, it’s worth adding a denim jacket or shirt.

Look 1: neutral

The second look is ideal for more formal occasions, such as the work environment. Bet on more discreet colors, such as oil, for the pants. Wear thinner pieces, such as a silk blouse and heels. To make the look less loaded, complement with a belt.

Look 2: formal

To create a more youthful look, invest in strong colors, such as klein blue, pink and orange. Use less informal pieces to give a modernized look. Sweatshirt and boots appear as good options.

Look 3: casual

How to combine the pieces?

Some tips that the consultants passed on to never make a mistake when wearing colored pants:

  • In semi-casual work environments, use colored pants in dark tones, complementing with blouses in neutral tones. The blazer can also be a suggestion to formalize the look. “Dress in such a way that credibility, discretion and receptivity are present, through the clothes”, points out Maria Valentina;
  • When the work environment is more casual, pants with more vibrant colors can be used. Complement it with a shirt or t-shirt in neutral colors, to give an air of seriousness to the look;
  • Do not wear colored pants for more formal work environments. “The professionals in these environments, even though they have a touch of receptivity, they must pass on to their clients and the people they keep in touch an image of more seriousness, trust and credibility, and colored pants are not the best option”, explains Maria Valentina;
  • For formal occasions such as a wedding, cocktail party and commemorative dinner, you can wear colored pants, as long as they are made of nobler fabrics and more sophisticated modeling, such as tailored pants with a heavy Chanel crepe (fabric).

Types of colored pants

Today on the market there are a variety of models and fabrics of colored pants. As for the main fabrics, Maria Valentina indicates that they are jeans, resin, leather, twill, mesh, silk and tailoring. “As for the models, the highlights are the skinny, flare, cropped and legging cuts”, she says.

As for the most popular, both consultants agree that skinny is preferred. “In my opinion, the most used colored pants are those made of skinny jeans fabrics”, says Maria Valentina. “The national passion is still skinny pants, which shape the curvy body of Brazilian women”, confirms Karla.

Where to buy colored pants?

Here are some options for colored pants to buy and go out wearing.

What is the ideal model of colored pants for me?

“All women can wear colored pants, as long as they match their personal style and body type”, says Maria Valentina about the piece being democratic. For Karla, the tip is to balance the proportions. “For those who have thicker legs and want to elongate their silhouette, opt for straight-leg pants and stronger, darker colors. For those with thinner legs, flare pants and lighter colors will model this biotype”, she details.

Maria Valentina adds other tips. Fuller women should avoid models that are too tight, wide, or pantaloons, as these models increase the curves even more. “The waistband should be at the waist,” she guides her. The short ones should choose more dry pants and with the length up to the heel, using heels whenever possible. “Another style trick for short girls to look taller is to wear monocratic looks or shoes in the same color as the pants”, adds the consultant.

The tips also extend to skinny women. “Those who have the inverted triangle body type can abuse colored pants in more vibrant tones”, suggests Maria Valentina. The guideline for all women is to always take into account the color that favors your skin tone. “Those who have dark skin can use and abuse pieces of strong colors. Women who have very fair skin should avoid very light and dull colors”, she concludes.

More tips for not making a mistake

  1. Shoes can be neutral or colored, depending on the woman’s style, as explained by Karla;
  2. “Women’s sneakers, sneakers, slippers, when used with cropped or skinny pants, form a more casual look”, reiterates Maria Valentina;
  3. Do not wear colored pants with riding boots;
  4. Colored pants are strong allies to create color blocking looks. “The mixture of colors must talk to each other and, even if the colors belong to different families, they must be harmonious together”, recommends Maria Valentina;
  5. Winter colors: they are the most closed and dark, such as red, wine, purple, military green, navy;
  6. Summer colors: they are stronger and more cheerful, such as yellow, orange, guava, pink.
