Candle therapy: the end of split ends through the candle flame

Who would have thought that the candle, in addition to lighting and decorating environments, could also be used to treat hair?!

Candle therapy is a technique that, through the flame of a candle, eliminates the double ends of the wires. And that has even been very successful among the famous (see below). According to Viviane Siqueira, hairstylist at Pierre Louis Coiffeur, it is an old procedure, but is currently being used a lot.

“The technique basically consists of burning the split ends, so that the hair grows stronger and fuller. When the strands come into contact with the candle flame, the channels through which vitamins and nutrients penetrate are unobstructed, nourishing them”, explains the hairstylist. “In addition to nutrition, the procedure causes all split ends, including those that cannot be reached with scissors, to be burned. In this way, the keratin fiber seals each strand that has been subjected to heat,” she adds.

Hairstylist Viviane says that the technique is apparently simple: “the hair is separated into twisted strands and then the candle flame is passed through the hair quickly”, she explains. However, the procedure can only be done by professionals, who have experience with this work! If the person tries to do it at home, there is a great risk of burning the wires and even getting burned!

Indications and Contraindications

According to hairstylist Viviane, candle therapy is indicated for women with difficulties in growing their hair, with very dry, porous and split ends. “There are no bans. But the technique is not suitable for women who have short hair,” she adds.

Frequency and cost

For hairstylist Viviane, the procedure should be done every five or six months, according to the client’s hair.

Also according to the professional, the value of candle therapy is around R$800, which may vary according to the city and salon where the treatment will be performed.

Other treatments to repair the ends

In addition to candle therapy, there are other treatments that promise to end split ends. “There are several cosmetic treatments that are indicated, such as hair botox and hair reconstructions. To prevent split ends, the use of leave-ins and silicones on the hair can be quite effective”, explains hairstylist Viviane.

Celebrities who joined candle therapy

Recently, Preta Gil shared, on her Instagram account, a photo of the procedure. “Making a candle in my hair to make it baphonic!”, wrote the singer, which encouraged many fans and women, in general, to bet on the technique. Actress Carol Magalhães also posted a photo of the technique on her Instagram.

Actress Cláudia Rodrigues also showed that she is a fan of candle therapy with photos on her Instagram. And blogger Lalá Rudge bet on the technique and showed photos of the procedure on her blog.

In addition to them, Cleo Pires, Ingrid Guimarães and Isabeli Fontana also declared having candle therapy a few times a year.

And you, are you interested in candle therapy? Remember, first of all, that it must be done, necessarily, by a professional with experience in the technique. Only then will it not offer risks and bring good results!
