The theme “gluteal augmentation” has gained more and more space in our office and in the media. Despite being a national preference, the shapely butt to date, it has not been included in the most sought-after plastic surgeries.
Today, with greater safety, faster recovery and better results, such procedures have been much sought after and performed on a geometric scale. But the question remains: What is better, prosthesis, bioplasty or liposculpture?
liposculpture
THE liposculpture It is a liposuction where part of the aspirated fat is used as a graft to increase or fill another area, commonly the buttocks.
Liposuction, by removing the fat from the sides above the buttocks, already shows the gluteal region by itself. Added to the fat graft, such projection becomes more evident.
Because it is part of the body itself, fat does not generate any reaction, rejection, allergy. It’s very safe. It undergoes, however, resorption of around 40% of the grafted volume, which may vary between patients.
Bioplasty
THE bioplasty consists of applying a biocompatible material, PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate). With a gel consistency, PMMA is injected into the muscle and fat of the gluteal region, providing an increase corresponding to the volume injected.
As for the result, it is similar to fat grafting, but not about the absorption of fat, maintaining the result over time. Its disadvantages are the impossibility of removing the product, which is infiltrated in the tissues of the body. Although cases are rare, there may be some reaction to the product, such as allergy, swelling, lumpiness, etc.
The application of bioplasty is done by injection, which can be done with sedation or just local anesthesia. The result is immediate and the return to activities after a few days. The pain is mild and the frequency of complications is proportional to the volume injected.
Prosthesis
THE gluteal prosthesis it is placed through surgery, with epidural or general anesthesia, recovery time of at least 14 days and greater discomfort in relation to pain. The disadvantages stop there.
The result is more effective in terms of projection and increased consistency. Allows removal of the prosthesis, if necessary. Complications are rare and the results are natural. The patient will no longer be able to take an injection in the buttocks.
After all, what’s the best option?
Bearing these points in mind, I believe that for greater increases, better gluteal contour and consistency gain, the prosthesis should be chosen. For smaller increases, without gaining consistency (PMMA is a gel, with a consistency similar to fat), bioplasty can be used in moderate volumes. For patients who have fat in the flanks (sides of the abdomen), liposculpture is a good option, whether or not associated with gluteal prosthesis.
It is always important to point out that the result of the procedure is directly related to choosing the correct procedure and performing it safely. Therefore, always look for a specialist, that is, make sure that the doctor is a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.
