Brahma God: The First God of the Hindu Trimurti ✨

God Brahma he is one of the deities that make up the most powerful triumvirate of the Hindu pantheon, the Trimurti, and is the creator of the universe and everything that inhabits it.

The trimurti is formed by Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Vishnu is responsible for preserving and maintaining Brahma’s creations. In turn, Shiva is responsible for the destruction of the universe at each new end of the cycle, which happens every 2,160,000,000 years.

But why would the god Shiva want to destroy the innumerable creations of the god Brahma? It is not out of malice or envy, but simply to give the new a chance to flourish.

Hindus believe that their powers of destruction and create anew are used until now to do away with the illusions and imperfections of this world. Thus, paving the way for changes that will do good for everyone.

But let’s better understand the story of the god Brahma.

The birth of god Brahma

According to the Puranas (Hindu religious texts), Brahma is the son of Almighty God – Brahman – and is also known as prajapati. O shatapatha brahmana (another religious text conceived over 1000 BC) says that Brahma was born from the Supreme Being Brahman and the female energy known as Maya.

Desiring to create the universe, Brahman first created water, in which he placed his seed. This seed turned into a golden egg, from which Brahma emerged. For this reason Brahma is also known as Hiranyagarbha (golden embryo).

This golden egg was incubated for a year until Brahma was ready. As soon as he was born, such was his power that the first sounds emitted were able to create the sky, the earth and the seasons.

The first time he breathed out of the golden egg, Brahma created the devas (gods), fire and light. When she expired, she created the asuras (demons) and darkness. Then, together with the goddess Shatarupa, created by him, he conceived all beings and time.

There are many Hindu scriptures and each one attributes a different story to the emergence of Brahma. According to another legend, Brahma was born from a lotus flower that grew from Vishnu’s navel while he slept.

What does the god Brahma look like?

He is described as having four heads, four arms, and red skin. Unlike all other Hindu gods, the god Brahma does not carry any weapons in his hands.

He holds a pot of water, a spoon, a prayer book or the Vedas, a rosary and sometimes a lotus. He is sitting on a lotus in the lotus pose and moves in a white swan.

What is the legend behind the 4 heads of the god Brahma?

When the god Brahma was born, he had only one head. After Shatarupa’s creation, Brahma fell in love with her beauty and began to pursue her.

Annoyed by so many stares, Shatarupa fled in all directions. As she moved, Brahma developed one more head, to the point of having four to see the four corners of the universe.

Completely cornered, Shatarupa jumped over their heads for a moment of peace and quiet. But behold, Brahma created a fifth head on top.

Wanting to keep running away from the eyes, Shatarupa decided to change shape. She took the form of every living thing in existence. At the same time, Brahma transformed into the male version of all beings that she became, giving rise to all the communities of living beings on the planet.

God Shiva, enraged at what he saw, admonished Brahma for displaying incestuous behavior and cut off his fifth head for ‘impure’ behavior. As Brahma had forgotten his original mission which was creation, Shiva cursed him with oblivion and so people would no longer worship him.

As a form of repentance, Brahma is said to have continually recited the four Vedas ever since, one from each of his four heads.

God Brahma is not preferred by Hindus

It is surprising to know this, after all, he is the creator god of everything and everyone, so he should be worshiped as the God of Christianity. If he is The Creator, they should be more considerate, don’t you think?

But that’s not exactly how it happens and it has a very interesting and intelligent reason. the god Brahma has already fulfilled his role, so he no longer needs worship.

With his role fulfilled, it is up to Vishnu to preserve the world and Shiva to continue his path of cosmic reincarnation. That’s why we found only two temples dedicated to this Hindu god.

Another story told is that the sage Brahmarishi Bhrigu, a high priest, decided that he would perform a ritual in which he would choose the greatest of all gods. So Bhrigu set out to find the greatest among the Trinity.

When he met the god Brahma, he decided that he would be the greatest of them all. But Brahma was so immersed in the music played by Sarasvati, his daughter and consort, that he could barely hear Bhrigu’s calls.

Then, the sage promptly cursed Brahma, saying that no person on Earth would ever provide invocations or worship to him again. So, that would be one of the reasons he’s not so adored nowadays.

Of course, there is the legend of Shiva’s curse that we told just above. So the question remains, which one is the real cause of low worship?
