Ayhan Karadağ is a Turkish artist who has worked with numerous types of art since he was 11 years old. He has molded clay sculptures and worked in wood, painted in watercolors and also made pencil drawings. In short, he experimented with many types of materials to create his art. However, his favorite is the skin, where he transports scenes that seem to have escaped from a fairy tale. In an interview, Ayhan told us how his style was born and how the decision to get a tattoo can come so close to his heart.

1. The most valuable canvas: your skin
“I’ve been drawing since I was 11, and there hasn’t been a moment in my life when I’ve stopped doing it. Art is everything”.
For a talent like that, it was exactly those years of experience that made this Istanbul artist come to the conclusion that the most valuable material to impregnate with art is skin.
It is on the skin that Ayhan shapes scenes with a special character and that resemble characters from short stories. The artist explains his style by saying that he prefers to draw stories that show the places and times of the fairy tales of our dreams. For this reason, his drawings are populated with scenes from nature and animals, both of which are the artist’s passions. According to him, they represent our purest times of the heart, our childhood.
“I wanted people to be happy when they look at my work on their bodies. I don’t think there is anything more rewarding than having on your body the design of the fairy tale that a man has imagined all his life”.
And like a good artist, Ayhan’s inspiration doesn’t let him stop. “Art is my entertainment, my culture, my lover, my ritual; art is everything”. Which is why he is currently designing a book of fairy tales. The scenes he created on his clients’ skins haven’t been enough to satiate his creativity, so he wants to continue with this publication on paper. Some of these designs have even been tattooed.
