All about American enamel

Women are increasingly vain and one of the essential beauty rituals is nail polish. The addiction to colored bottles has become so great that in addition to frequently appearing new brands and collections of nail polishes with the most varied textures and finishes, there are also innovative ways of applying nail varnish on nails. Here’s how American enamel works.

The so-called American enamelling takes its name because it is a very common procedure among professional manicurists in the United States, however, the technique is also widely used in European countries. The innovative way, in fact, is not about enameling the nails, but the part where we need to remove the excess nail polish that covers the cuticles and sides of the fingers. With the foreign technique we used a beveled makeup brush to clean the corners of the fingers, instead of using the traditional wooden stick with cotton wrapped around the tip.

In the beginning, the result of the American technique can cause strangeness in some women, because in this way the cuticles are distant from the enamel, causing a white band between the enameled nail and the skin. This may be new, but it’s also much healthier. By generating less contact between the skin and products such as nail polish remover, we have a much lower occurrence of cuticle drying.

To make the American enamel process at home you will only need a common beveled brush, the same model used in makeup, and a container with acetone or nail polish remover. Having these materials in hand, the rest is very simple, just follow the step-by-step instructions below:

  1. To start the process, you should prepare your nails normally, removing any excess skin from the cuticles, sanding and leaving them ready to receive the next step.
  2. After that, we recommend using a leveling or protective base to ensure the strength and nutrition of the nails, in addition to facilitating the distribution of the enamel on the nails.
  3. Start by applying the nail polish of your choice on all nails, but be careful to avoid contacting the product with the cuticles as much as possible. So, pass the layers carefully and calmly so you don’t smudge all your fingers.
  4. After applying all the necessary layers of nail polish to perfectly cover your nails, wait about ten minutes to start cleaning the corners.
  5. To start removing the nail polish from the sides of the nails, dip the beveled brush in the nail polish remover and remove the excess on a paper towel. If you don’t, when you touch the brush to the nail it will form a puddle of acetone on the nail, which is disadvantageous.
  6. Position the brush in the center of the nail and go down the side to the bottom. Repeat the process on the other side until the entire area around the nail is clean. Support both hands on a table so that the line is very firm and there are no mistakes.

See how simple the process is? With a little training, it’s easy to perfect and guarantee a wonderful result, in addition to being much healthier. If you still have any doubts about how to apply the technique, check out the video below and practice when you feel ready.
