8 Healthy Foods You Shouldn’t Overeat

But a high intake of iodine, a substance found in seaweed, can lead to thyroid problems and even weight gain. Algae can also contain large amounts of heavy metals, depending on where they grow.

7. Soy and derivatives

Soy products are rich in nutrients, including vitamin B, fiber, potassium, magnesium and high-quality protein. The grain is considered a complete protein because it contains all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot produce. But if you’ve recently changed your diet due to thyroid problems, beware: soy can interfere with hormone medication used to treat hypothyroidism in female patients. The omega-3 contained in chia is more difficult to absorb than that provided by salmon, for example. Therefore, although the seeds contain a greater amount of this substance, you would need to ingest about 100 grams of the product to absorb the same amount that you would get from a portion of fish.
