7 ways to relieve the heat at home without using the air conditioner

When the hot months of the year arrive, the first thing that comes to mind is how to face the muggy days and nights, whether on the street, in the car, work or even at home. To avoid excessive heat, it is common for people to invest in air conditioners, as they make the environment cooler almost immediately.

However, this appliance may not be the best option. The high cost of the device, combined with a greater expenditure of energy and the harm it causes to health, ask you to use other measures, before rushing to the nearest store to buy yours.

1 – Keep the curtains closed during the day

Curtains are an important partner to not overheat your home in the summer, because they block excessive sunlight. It is better, therefore, to keep them closed, to avoid a mini greenhouse effect at home.

2 – Do your best to keep the heat outside

How about investing in some kind of film that can reflect sunlight to be placed on windows? This type of material will keep your home insulated from the heat caused by the sun’s rays by reflecting these rays.

3 – Fresh night air needs to be kept for as long as possible

At night, the air is usually not as stuffy as during the day, so it is essential to use this period to your advantage. When the sun goes down and the breeze is cooler, therefore, open all the windows and let the air rush through the house, closing them again before the day dawns and starts to heat up again.

4 – Replace incandescent light bulbs

For some years now, people have been talking about the advantages of replacing incandescent light bulbs – also called “hot” light bulbs – for white, or “cold” light bulbs. In recent times, the LED lamp has even been launched on the market, which is even more economical and durable than conventional white lamps. This exchange also helps to reduce the heat inside closed environments, since incandescent lamps generate much more heat than the others.

5 – Use tricks to humidify the indoor air

Anything goes to make the air less “dry”, especially at bedtime. Use containers full of fresh water in every room of the house – just be careful if you have small children, because even a small amount of water can be enough for a child to drown. Another good option is to soak bath towels and spread them around the house, on the back of chairs and on cabinet doors, for example.

6 – Condition the air yourself

A fan running with a frozen water bottle right in front of it is a simple and effective way to circulate cool air around the room without having to turn on the air conditioner.

7 – Abuse of cold drinks and refreshing foods

Hydration is essential on hot days. Cold drinks and fresh foods, such as fruit and fruit popsicles, are good options to beat body heat and stay more comfortable during the summer.
