7 reasons to be persistent and never give up on your goals

We all have goals that we want to achieve. The path to them can often seem difficult and even impossible to travel. The road taken to get the dream job, rise in position or set up your own business can be long and giving up ends up being a recurring thought.

The desire to give up is natural, but shouldn’t we make it an impulse to achieve success? No victory comes without a battle first. In moments when everything seems to be lost, it is essential to believe in your inner strength and be persistent, because only then will your goal be achieved.

Being persistent can seem difficult and laborious when the path to the goal has been covered for a long time. In these situations, when the will to give up seems to be greater than the will to succeed, seeking motivational help is very important and can serve as a support to continue on the path towards your achievement.

With that in mind, with the help of Letícia Guedes, psychologist and co-owner of Clínica Vivencialle, we have prepared a list of 7 reasons and tips for you to be persistent and keep fighting for your goals, check it out:

1. It’s better to try and fail than never try at all.

The phrase may sound cliché, but you’ll never know what’s going to happen if you don’t try. Remember that trying is always better than nothing. Also understand that failure is completely normal and doesn’t mean you haven’t tried hard enough. “Not trying can block your will and with that you are aimless, determined and lose the will to do something”, comments the psychologist.

2. There will always be people trying to make you give up

“It is necessary to listen to those who love you, but it is also important to trust yourself”, comments Dr. Leticia. If there are people trying to get you to give up along the way, it doesn’t mean you should give up on your goals. Take it as motivation and prove you can. “Remember, the only person who is fully connected with you regardless of the circumstances is yourself, because only you know what goes on in your head and in your heart”, concludes Dr. Leticia.

3. Be an example of motivation

Inspire the people around you. Motivate your family, friends and co-workers by showing them that if you can try and succeed, so can they. “When we engage in something that gives us pleasure, it makes us more collaborators with the dreams and realities of others, so we must maintain the habit of sharing our motivation”, adds Dr. Leticia.

4. Experience and learning along the way

Everything in life depends on how you look at it. Decide to face the path to the goal as best you can. “Listening to elders or people more experienced than you who have been through a similar situation, they can be great sources of wisdom,” advises Dr. Leticia. The road to success can be an arduous one, but it will provide you with countless positive experiences and learning, if you choose to do so.

5. Success may be closer than you think

Often the path can be long and complex, but in others we end up complicating it and we don’t realize that success is right there or even pessimism can end up getting in the way. “Each one has its own shine and that is what we must hold on to to see that we are successful”, comments Dr. Leticia.

6. Successes along the way

The path to your goal is not always entirely arduous. By trying to reach a goal you can achieve some successes along the way. “It is necessary to set goals and take advantage of mistakes as a learning experience”, recommends Dr. Leticia. So, know how to take advantage of the possible successes along your way and have this as a motivation to keep persisting.

7. Things can always get better

If things are bad, remember that they can always get better. “It takes optimism to know how to deal with obstacles and failures, if today didn’t work out, remember that there will be a better tomorrow, and that the world turns around”, comments Dr. Leticia. So, if you believe you’ve hit rock bottom, know that with the right amount of effort and determination, you’ll be able to achieve your goals. Keep faith in yourself, things can always get better.

Things don’t always happen when we want them to, so it’s important to be patient. If your goal has not yet come true, keep faith and optimism, as they will give you the strength not to give up. When success knocks on your door, remember to make the most of it, after all, you deserve it and you fought hard for it.
