What is a pump up and what is it used for?

The pump up is an aesthetic procedure that uses a suction cup to create a vacuum effect in the gluteal region. According to the plastic surgeon, “it is a recent technique that basically involves increasing the volume of this region.”

Therefore, the procedure is indicated for “women who would like to make their buttocks more robust, pert and with a better texture. The pump up serves to tighten the skin and the muscles of the gluteal region”, he added.

Questions about the pump up

Next, Dr. Jorge Antônio solves the main doubts about this technique. See below:

  • What are the main advantages of the technique? the doctor informed that the “procedure is fast, painless, non-invasive and presents results in the first sessions. In addition to improving the appearance of the skin and cellulite, it also improves the toning of the muscles of the gluteal region, increasing local circulation with collagen production and body shaping.”
  • How long to leave the pump up? “the device is left in the region for around 15 to 20 minutes. A professional stays next to the patient to monitor and analyze the first results,” said Dr. Jorge Antonio.
  • How many times a week can you pump up? the surgeon explained that “first it is necessary to evaluate the patient and verify if she is sedentary, what is the state of her musculature and if the region is very flaccid (tissue flaccidity). But, normally, the procedure can be done once a week – when there is a greater need for gluteal projection, and every 15 days for women who want to maintain the results already achieved.”
  • How many pump up sessions are needed? the doctor informed that “the number of sessions will depend on each patient, but never less than 8/10 sessions and never more than 15/20 sessions.”
  • What are the care after the sessions? “Although the pump up is a painless procedure and does not require recovery after the sessions, the region that was subjected to the device should not be traumatized. That’s why it’s important to try to keep yourself in a position that doesn’t compress the region, as it was subjected to a vacuum. So it is recommended that this region rest a little, around 3 to 4 hours.”
  • What kind of professional can perform the procedure? according to the plastic surgeon, “the technique can be performed by professionals in the beauty area, doctors (dermatologists, plastic surgeons)”. In addition, it is important to inform that professionals must have specialization in techniques that use cupping and cupping therapy.

The pump up has been much sought after for having amazing results in the first few sessions. However, it is important to maintain a balanced diet and exercise to maintain results.

Pump up risks, care and contraindications

Although the procedure is painless and without potential complications, Dr. Jorge Antônio, informed that the main risk is that the pump up is done by unskilled hands. And he warns that the procedure should not “be performed by people who do not master the technique”. As for contraindications, the plastic surgeon explained that “people with sagging skin problems or an infection in the gluteal region, people with varicose veins, circulatory problems and pregnant women should not undergo the procedure.”
