In biology classes we learn that 50% of our DNA is inherited from our mothers and 50% from our fathers. This data, however, does not mean that parents transmit an equal amount of physical and genetic characteristics to their children. In fact, there is a 60% chance that the traits are inherited from the father, just because these genes are more aggressive.
O awesome.club decided to research a little more about this and listed below six characteristics that are usually defined by the father’s genes.
1. Height
Most likely you’ve heard someone say “he’s tall like his father”, right? Apparently, this statement can be confirmed by science. A person’s height is determined by at least 700 genetic variations inherited from both parents, but the height gene that comes from the father seems to have a big impact on the height of children.
2. Crooked teeth
When the father’s teeth are crooked, there is a greater likelihood that the child will have to go to the dentist more often, even if his mother has “good” teeth.
3. Genre
The father is 100% responsible for the gender of the baby. The X and Y chromosomes, commonly known as sex chromosomes, define the child’s gender. Girls inherit an X chromosome from their father, resulting in an XX-type genotype, and boys inherit a Y chromosome from their father, resulting in an XY-type genotype. As the mother only passes on X chromosomes, the father is responsible for this determination.
4. Dimples
In many cultures, dimples are seen as a mark of beauty and attractiveness. However, scientists describe them as a defect caused by the shortening of the facial muscles. However, it is assumed that the dimple is inherited, as it is defined by a dominant genetic trait and usually comes from the father.
5. Fingerprint
You may have read somewhere that no two fingerprints are exactly alike. However, a baby’s can look similar to the father’s, after all fingerprint patterns are genetic traits that are inherited from the parent.
6. Sneezing
Most of us know at least one person who can’t control a sneeze when looking at the sun or bright light. Well this is another genetic trait that comes from the father. This is a condition known as ACHOO syndrome, and studies suggest that it is more likely to be passed down from the father.
Do you think you are more like your father or mother? And what other traits do you feel you inherited from them?
