5 tips to buy the perfect contour brush and rock makeup

Contouring is an important step towards a powerful make-up. The problem is that it is not always easy to apply this product, is it? With that in mind, the contour brush makes your day to day easier. Come check out what makeup artist Julia Beatriz taught about this product!

What are contour brushes?

Julia explains that “with regard to contouring for the face, it is necessary to think about where to contour and what type of product will be used, so that you can choose the best brush for a more beautiful finish”.

fluffy beveled brush

Perhaps the most common and well-known brush in this regard is the cheekbone contour brush (below the zygomatic bone), used to add shadow to the face, providing dimensions to the face.

The makeup artist explains that “the brush that best fits here is the fluffy beveled brush, which has a cutout that fits better on the protrusion of the cheeks. It can be used with both dry and creamy products.

However, she warns that this brush, if not used correctly and with a light hand, can stain makeup.

angled contour brush

Julia explains that another brush that has been a darling of bloggers is the angled contour brush. According to her, it’s a revamped version of the beveled contour brush! It is more ergonomic and fits well under the apples.

Julia comments that “this brush can be used vertically, horizontally and diagonally, while the normal beveled brush tends to be used only in diagonal movements. It is great for contouring the temples, jaw, chin and forehead.”

Brush to sculpt the contour areas

The makeup artist also indicates the brush to sculpt the contour areas, used mainly with creamy and liquid products, with short bristles, and it is a dense brush, but boring. It is suitable for the largest parts of the face, such as the cheeks, jaw and forehead.

“It’s perfect for more professional techniques, as you need another brush to blend after using the sculpting brush,” says Julia.

Medium size smudge brushes

It is also possible to use medium-sized smudge brushes. They are usually cute, so they leave a very natural finish and can be used on larger parts of the face, such as temples, forehead and cheekbones.

“They are my favorites when it comes to using powder products! The effect is subtle and is great for everyday use, due to its practicality”, indicates the professional.

Short-bristled, straight-cut brush

According to Julia, another brush to sculpt small parts of our face, especially the nose, is the short-bristled, straight-cut brush.

“This brush is great for returning the contour of the nose and making more intense demarcations, especially when we want a nighttime look!”, says the makeup artist.

Although it is mainly used for the nose, it is possible to use it in the region of the lips, below the lower lip line, tracing a small line to project the lip forward. In addition, the professional also warns that “as this brush sculpts, it is necessary to use another brush to blend the product used, regardless of consistency, creamy or powder”.
