5 Signs You’re Making the Wrong Decision

As rational as we try to be, making important decisions is something that stirs emotions, right? You can’t always see things clearly and at these times it’s super important to reflect before taking any action. And the first step is to be able to identify the red signs that indicate that maybe you are getting into a robbery. That’s why we’ve put together some small tips here – which are actually quite simple – to help you notice these signs. Inhale, exhale and don’t freak out, my friend!

1. You are going too fast.

It may sound corny, but making a good old-fashioned list of pros and cons is super valid. Putting it all down on paper really can make a difference! Check your list as often as necessary, and pay special attention to the thorniest items. Don’t run over steps in decision making. In certain situations we are pressured to decide something “for yesterday”, but you need to be honest with yourself above all!

2. You are more anxious and emotional than usual.

There are times when we end up making drastic decisions in a flash and that’s not good. That saying that “it’s better to do it all at once, like taking off a band-aid” doesn’t apply to everything in life. Anxiety is never a friend of decision making. Even if it’s tiring, reflecting and airing ideas is always the best thing to do. And remember: rational and emotional must be aligned before you hit the hammer.

3. You are feeling exhausted.

Important red sign! The day-to-day rush is the enemy of decision-making. Is your boss putting pressure on? Explain that you need to reflect on this over the weekend. An exhausted mind cannot compute the risks clearly and a relaxing bath or a good night’s sleep can make all the difference in the face of a big decision!

4. You are going against your instincts.

Overcoming fear is super important to make things work, but that doesn’t mean we should jump right in. It’s important to know how to recognize what fear is and what your instinct is turning on the red light. Once again: you need to have a clear head to see things clearly and organize your ideas.

5. You don’t talk to anyone about it.

Can you talk openly about the indecision that is keeping you up at night? If the answer is “no” this is a red flag to be considered! The final decision should be yours, but asking advice from someone you trust is always a good idea at these times. Talk to someone, even if it’s just to vent. Explaining the situation to someone else is also a good way to organize your own thoughts more clearly.
