There is no doubt that one of the most iconic and remembered series of the 90s is Um Maluco no Pedaço. Will Smith was the protagonist of this comedy with dramatic touches, in which his character would live in Los Angeles, in the house of his rich uncles and cousins. The situation generated several remarkable and amusing moments. It is a production with six seasons, broadcast over six years on the small screen, leaving millions of viewers hooked on the adventures of Will and his entire family.
To celebrate the iconic production, the awesome.club decided to remember some of the guest artists who at some point participated in episodes of the plot.
1. Tyra Banks
In the show’s fourth season and over eight episodes, we got the chance to watch the TV debut of model Tyra Banks (Jackie), who played a childhood friend and Will’s ex-girlfriend. It all ends when Jackie gets annoyed with the protagonist during a party and leaves.
2. Tom Jones
Many people remember Cousin Carlton’s signature dance, in the best Tom Jones style. The surprise comes when, during an episode of the third season, the singer appears in the form of a guardian angel to advise Carlton. Afterwards, they end the scene by singing and dancing together to one of their best-known songs.
3. Vanessa Williams
Actress, singer and model Vanessa Williams played Danny Mitchell in a season three episode. In her appearance on the series, Williams played the role of Aunt Vivian’s pregnant friend, who almost ends up giving birth on the road, during a date with Will. The episode is hilarious, and needless to say, to this day we laugh a lot remembering it.
4. Oprah Winfrey
World-famous host Oprah Winfrey made a cameo in the series playing herself. In Season 3, Episode 9, Oprah invites the entire family to check out her show. However, Uncle Phil decides to leave Will out. To dribble the situation that unfolds on stage, the presenter needs to use all her good humor and her patience.
5. Queen Latifah
In the second season, the actress played the role of Dee Dee, a young woman who does not fit the expected physical standards and with whom Will falls in love. The protagonist wants to invite her to the school dance, but all the external pressure makes him rethink his plans.
When recalling the scene, we can say that the combination between Latifah and Smith on the screen proved to be a lot of fun, yielding good laughs.
6. Hugh Hefner
Hefner was another who played himself. He appeared in the plot trying to convince Hillary to pose for her famous magazine, in an episode of the fourth season. Both Will and Carlton accompany the young woman (who ended up posing for the publication) to the mansion, where comical situations unfold.
7. Jay Leno
Jay Leno also appeared as himself in a chapter of the series. In the plot, Will takes a picture of Leno and, inadvertently, sells it to a tabloid newspaper. It’s an episode with all the right ingredients for a lot of laughs, do you agree?
8. Jaleel White
The actor, famous for playing Family Matters’ Steve Urkel, made a cameo appearance on the series as Derek, the ex-boyfriend of Will’s teenage cousin Ashley. Carlton and Will try to convince the girl, in every way, to end the relationship, generating a lot of laughter, but also some moments of tension.
9. Raven-Symone
During the second season, Raven played Claudia, daughter of Will’s mother’s new boyfriend. The episode shows an energetic little girl, seemingly nice and kind, but a little different when she’s not being seen. Despite everything, she and Will end up becoming good friends.
10. Chris Rock
During the second season, Chris Rock presented us with a fun double-dose performance, playing Maurice and Jasmine. In the episode, Will has a date with the young woman without knowing what she really is. A combination to cry… to laugh!
11. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The well-known basketball player appears in a season five episode as one of the Banks’ neighbors, wearing a furry, colorful sweater. The story unfolds with a golf competition between neighbors, a context that leads to very funny scenes.
12. Naya Rivera
During one episode, Hilary, the most arrogant of Will’s cousins, imagines what it would be like to have a daughter, and the little girl, Cindy, was played by Naya Rivera. We can see a little Naya taking her first steps into the world of acting with great ease, in addition to her fictional mother, who would practically treat her like a servant.
13. B.B. King
In the series, the king of the blues goes by the name Pappy. Giving fans a tremendous gift, the episode that featured him not only got laughs, but guaranteed the chance to check out the talent that the iconic musician also had for acting.
14. Malcolm-Jamal Warner
Malcolm played Eric, a successful lawyer who dates Hilary but can’t stand Will. Due to enmity, Eric does not hesitate to sue our protagonist for having crashed his car without having insurance.
15. Sherman Hemsley
In the series, he played the role of Judge Robertson, a man who takes the job he wants from Uncle Phil and manages to make him furious. Upset about missing the opportunity, the uncle begins to speak ill of Robertson, who dies suddenly, leaving Phil overcome with remorse.
16. Vivica A. Fox
Jazz, Will’s best friend, asks him to go on a date with his sister, Janet (Vivica) who, despite being beautiful, doesn’t seem to have a very usual behavior. The young woman is so obsessed with Will that she already says she knows how many children they will have and where they will marry. The situation leaves the protagonist scared, but in the audience of the first season of the series, the reaction was one of loose laughter.
17. Regis Philbin
A presenter in real life, he played the same role in the series. There is an episode in which Hilary replaces the titular presenter, a colleague of Regis who, in turn, starts to have doubts about following with the usual colleague, or replacing her with the oldest of Will’s cousins.
18. Dick Clark
Again a presenter appears alongside Will on the show, but this time helping the character to present a special episode showing various interviews and videos of cast members. This happened in the last season, because the whole team already knew that there would be the end of the series.
19. Naomi Campbell
World-renowned model Naomi Campbell appeared during the first season playing the role of a British nanny who has a blind date with Geoffrey the butler. However, Will is so impressed to see her that he decides to do everything to win the girl.
20. Don Cheadle
This actor, who embodied the inseparable friend of Iron Man (War Machine) in the superhero films and in the saga The Avengers, was another to participate in the series. Don played Ice Tray, Will’s good friend from Philadelphia, who comes to visit him at the invitation of the protagonist’s aunt and uncle in an episode of the first season.
The series, so memorable and entertaining, continues to be fondly remembered by an entire generation. Do you remember these and other famous guest appearances in Um Maluco no Pedaço? In your opinion, what is the best show of all time? Tell in the comments!
