15 People Who Needed Just a Few Minutes to Put a Smile on a Stranger’s Face

We are not always at our best and advice can change our way of seeing things and our mood. Unfortunately, we’re not always lucky enough to find someone to say the right words to us, but there are some people out there who are oozing sympathy and kindness. Thus, they manage to change the destiny of a stranger for the better, without even knowing it.

We, from awesome.club, we believe that sometimes the best reflections can come from the least expected places. And these 15 people involved in peculiar situations not only believe, but will never forget the faces of these true angels.

I was a kid and I was in a restaurant. A gentleman at the next table spoke about six languages. He gave examples of some of them. I was so impressed that from that day I wanted to learn languages. I now speak six fluently and know the basics of a few more. That man made a really positive impact on me. © Turicus / Reddit When I was a kid, an older man gave me a picture of a clown he had drawn on the back of his placemat while he was waiting for his pizza. It was such a good drawing that my mother wouldn’t let me keep it. She kept it, saying I would spoil it. Maybe he was right, but I really wanted to put it on my bedroom wall. That day I decided to be an artist. One day, when I’m old, I’ll give a drawing to a child in a pizzeria and hope that another artist is born. It probably won’t be from a clown, I don’t want to risk it. © NeedsMoreTuba / Reddit
One night I was walking home from getting something to eat and saw a younger boy pushing an elderly Hispanic woman in a wheelchair. As I passed, he stopped me and asked for help. The lady had missed the bus and needed help to get home. She didn’t speak English, neither the boy nor I spoke Spanish well. He explained that she could not get into an ordinary vehicle in her condition and that he had already pushed her about 1.5 km. He asked me to push him the rest of the way as he was already late for his shift at work. I accepted and drove her around for about 90 minutes while she cursed at me every time we tripped over a pothole. When we finally arrived at her residence, she thanked me so much. I was hungry so on the way home I sat down on a bench to eat. © dring157 / RedditI went to the cemetery to visit my grandmother’s grave. While I was there, a lovely lady saw me and came over to share some of her flowers with me, which were originally going to be placed on her husband’s grave. She placed them next to my grandmother’s headstone. I was in a particularly meaningful moment and her kindness touched me. I will never forget it. © Back2Bach / Reddit
Last week my husband, son and I went to the museum. At one point, a mother approached to ask for help getting her daughter’s leg into the baby carrier’s backpack. It was the first time in my four years as a mother that another mother had asked me for help. I will never forget how kind she was and how giggly her baby was. I have a lot of tattoos, face piercings, enlarged ears and I dress pretty grunge/punk. The fact that another mother asked me for help made me feel really good, as I usually get weird looks from most of them. © grafittia / RedditWhen I was a kid, we didn’t have a lot of money, so we often bought at second-hand stores. I loved being able to buy 10 books for a dollar, so I would stand in front of the book section and make piles of the ones I wanted and then decide which ones to take. One day, an elderly woman saw me sitting down and asked me if I liked to read. I said yes and showed him some of the books I had found. She smiled, took a dollar out of her purse, handed it to me and said: “Promise me you’ll keep reading.” I was so happy that I immediately got up and said I would do it. She smiled and walked away, while I went back to the shelves to get 10 more books to take home. For her, it was just a small act of kindness, but for me, having a stranger encourage my love of reading and making me promise I would never stop reading definitely has a lot to do with my ongoing love of books. That was over 20 years ago, but I still think about her every time I buy a new book. © -eDgAR- / Reddit
I am a professional cake decorator. One day, I was asked to make a “welcoming cake” for a baby girl. They immediately asked what the cancellation policy was like, as they weren’t sure if she would be born alive. I never wanted to bake a cake so much in my life as I did that day. Finally, they got the cake. That was years ago and I think about that little girl all the time. I hope it’s thriving. © boom_squid / Reddit I had a bad day. I missed two buses. By the time I got to my stop, I was furious, knowing I would have to wait another two hours. An elderly man who was sitting there enjoying a chocolate calmly told me, “Anger mainly means that you are in a lot of pain.” With that sentence, he made me realize how irrelevant my anger was. I quickly calmed down. Thanks! © infektiousPineapple / Reddit
There was a homeless woman I saw every now and then on my way to the store. Once she asked me for money and I apologized for not having anything as I was broke. She memorized that and didn’t ask me again. However, for several years, we politely greeted each other whenever we met. One day, I found her and she hugged me out of nowhere. This woman said that she had found a suitable job, that she had gotten an apartment, and that she was going to spend the day in front of the store so that people who had seen her all these years would know and not worry about her anymore. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I sometimes think about her when I’m in that area. I lived there a few years later, but I never saw her again. © rock_in_steady / Reddit In the late ’70s, where I live, a woman started running for mayor. She did this in every election until she passed away. With each opportunity, she gained more and more votes. Her only proposal was to build an airstrip in the far north for the aliens. I’ve voted for her since the day she turned 18. © Pyanfars / Reddit
30 years ago, at the age of 17, I dreamed of being a music teacher. It was a Saturday morning in my small town and I was walking from the library to the mall for lunch. On the way, I met a woman who looked to be in her 30s, but she looked much older, like she had a hard life. She asked if I could give her a dollar to buy a cup of coffee. I replied that if she accompanied me, I would buy her lunch. During our walk and lunch, she told me that she was a music teacher. Her father had been diagnosed with cancer and moved in with her to take care of her. She had to drive him to so many doctor appointments that she couldn’t work full time, so she became a substitute teacher. Because of that, her income decreased and she started to be inconsistent, so she couldn’t pay her phone bill and so they couldn’t call her so she could work. I could tell she was being honest as she talked about music teachers I also knew. That was the day I really understood that sometimes good people do all the right things, but in turn, they can experience bad circumstances. I also realized the importance of not judging and showing compassion instead. I ended up studying music education, but I didn’t become a teacher. Instead, I’ve dedicated my career to working for nonprofits to help people. © Iamwinning2022too / RedditMany years ago, I was on the London Underground, on a train that was starting to move. In a fleeting moment, I made eye contact with a guy on the platform. In movie style, he started to smile and run alongside the train, waving me to the end of the platform. When I think about it, I still smile. © Dusty_Flamingo_11 / Reddit
I was to return to my new home in another country after visiting my disheartening family. They left me at the airport with no money and without telling me that I needed a credit card to pay for my luggage. The woman in front of me said she would pay and I was not to worry about money so I was saved from getting stuck at the airport. I was about 19 at the time. I still think about her from time to time. © SlyeYce / Reddit A few nights a week, my wife works at a restaurant after her regular job, from 9 am to 5 pm. For that reason, some nights I spend time alone with our 4-year-old daughter. Sometimes, when I don’t feel like cooking, we go out for a quick bite to eat. On one of those nights, we were sitting across from a lonely old man. I realized he heard us talking and caught him smiling a few times. At one point, he got up to leave, but he stopped in front of our table and said, “Hi, I’ve been watching you guys and I felt like I needed to say something. Cherish these moments, because they pass too quickly. I’ve lost almost everyone in my life, even my wife and daughter, and now I live to see moments like that. Your daughter is beautiful, please cherish every second.” The man walked away and I immediately started crying, because I already knew how fast time flies and I always tell myself that I should cherish these little moments with my daughter. I will never forget that gentleman. © thelilmandan / Reddit
I, aged 24, was moving from Paris to Berlin with two huge suitcases (50 kg) and a cat. My “best friend” at the time, who was supposed to help me load all of this onto the train at 6am, completely abandoned me for always partying all night. Well, there I was, trying to get a taxi all by myself on the street (nobody was awake except me), standing there with my bags and my cat, thinking I was sure to miss my train. Out of frustration, I started to cry: the tickets were non-refundable. Suddenly, an angel in the form of a middle-aged man from Eastern Europe appeared in front of me. He was on his way to work, he didn’t speak French very well, but he still offered to carry my bags to the train station and even into it. He literally saved my day. I only had a few minutes to say thank you. Nine hours later, I started a new life in Berlin. I will never forget it. © ALWS_0rweLL / Reddit
