13 Kitchen Decorating Solutions That Cause More Problems than Satisfaction

Sometimes, when renovating the kitchen, we get too carried away and prefer stylish but impractical options. We spend money on expensive materials and order fashionable furniture. As a result, the kitchen looks like one from an interior design magazine, but cooking in it and cleaning it is much more complicated. It is worth noting that it is the room in the house that most people use most often.

We, from awesome.club, we looked at the tips of interior designers and recalled our own, not always positive, experiences of renovating the kitchen. In this selection we highlight the options that, although they look brilliant, can also present various problems.

Choosing the right coating for your kitchen floor is a difficult task. This room is the busiest place in the house, so the floor needs to be strong. Evidently, porcelain tiles are more suitable than laminate, but there are some particularities. Glossy and plain models can have drawbacks.

Liquids spilled on the floor make it slippery. Another not very suitable option is limestone flooring. All stains are immediately visible, and floors of this type should be washed more often.

The kitchen area can be demarcated using different floor coverings. For example, porcelain tile can be used near the sink and next to the stove, while laminate can be used in other areas. There are also some problems here. Over time, the laminate wears out, and due to moisture it can slightly deform. Thus, gaps may arise between the porcelain tile and the laminate.

We used two coatings on the kitchen floor: porcelain and laminate. The joints, we close them with metal strips. At first there was no problem at all, until I started tripping frequently. It turns out that the laminate bent a little and lifted the strips from the floor surface.

In addition to being beautiful, the transparent doors also do not overload the space. However, they are more appropriate for storing the sophisticated china plates and the beautiful crystal bowls. Colorful utensils such as boxes, pots or pans create visual clutter in these cabinets.

We opted for the glass doors for the upper cabinets. Right after installation, it looked perfect. However, only when there was nothing inside… It must also be constantly cleaned, to remove the traces of fat that accumulated during the preparation of meals.

Probably the right lighting is one of the most important things in the kitchen. It is worth carefully designing the places for the lamps, taking into account not only the decorative aspect, but also the size of the cabinets and appliances. Otherwise, the lamps can be covered by furniture. The same goes for the chandelier: some options provide a very dim and diffused light.

A couple friends bought a chandelier with counterweight, very beautiful. Nothing could go wrong, but the husband is much taller than the wife. She lowers the chandelier all the time to get better lighting, but her husband bumps his head every time he gets up from the table.

Some interior designers admit that the air cleaner, made of stainless steel, looks too dull, but cleaning the metal surface is more convenient. If you choose one with a plaster or mortar finish, cleaning won’t be as quick and easy. Grease and dust will constantly accumulate, forming a dense layer. It is almost impossible to remove it from textured surfaces.

When renovating the kitchen, many people want it not only stylish, but also functional and equipped with the most advanced technology. However, before installing any equipment it is necessary to consult professionals such as electricians or plumbers. Otherwise, the device will accumulate dust, waiting for better conditions to be installed.

A friend gave her parents a garbage disposal. The device was installed and the parents were happy. But just a week later, her mother called in horror: the pipe was completely clogged. The problem is that their house is old, and the plumbing is not adequate for such modern things.

Wooden surfaces need constant maintenance, and this may not be part of the homeowner’s plans. Due to intensive use, this material, even treated, is susceptible to scratches, cracks and stains that can only be removed with sandpaper, which requires a lot of effort.

In addition, wooden furniture must be constantly treated with special products that will protect it from wear and tear. Another important point is that around the sink bowl, it is better to use other materials, as wood deforms and darkens due to constant contact with water. If the owner of the kitchen is not prepared to spend a lot of time on care, then it is better to opt for an acrylic coating.

Replacing an ordinary door with an arch is a fairly popular solution. Not only does this save space, it adds light to the kitchen. However, this solution has some drawbacks. Even the most powerful scrubber cannot remove all odors and grease particles during the cooking process. Therefore, the smells will spread throughout the house. The layer of grease and dust, in this case, can appear on surfaces even in rooms far from the kitchen. In place of this solution, to save space, you can opt for sliding doors.

Without a doubt, doors that can be opened with a squeeze are very useful. They allow you to store things, even having something in your hands. However, they also have negative points: they are not cheap and, to save money, it is better to use them only in the lower compartments of wardrobes.

Another detail is that these doors must be cleaned much more frequently, as the marks of dirty and wet fingers are very visible on these surfaces. Women with long nails may also find this mechanism inconvenient, as it can break them easily.

Often, kitchen cabinets have to be opened with wet hands. Therefore, smooth and thin knobs can be cumbersome. Of course, they are more beautiful and give the kitchen a modern look, but it is better to place them on doors that open easily. In household appliances such as the refrigerator or dishwasher, it is preferable to use simple handles.

The stone pediment with texture or the tiles with relief look interesting in stores. But drops of grease and dust quickly accumulate on these surfaces, and cleaning them is not easy. If not cleaned frequently, the gable, behind the stove, will be dirty all the time.

To care for the stone, you will need to use special products. When choosing materials for the kitchen, the ideal is to consider the speed and ease of cleaning.

The electric cooktop is very convenient and can be turned on and adjusted with just one touch on the control panel. The required temperature can be chosen precisely. Its cleaning is also not difficult, but such stoves also have disadvantages. They take a long time to cool down, and not only people, but also pets can unintentionally burn themselves on the surface.

Copper vats remain very popular. They are quite stylish, but also have their own characteristics that must be observed. For example, over time copper fades and not everyone likes that look.

When the manufacturer applies a very thin layer of metal to the surface, dents, scratches and cracks can appear. Copper can also be damaged by hot water, acids and other harsh chemicals. Another disadvantage is that these vats are expensive and, even more so, it is not possible to install them without the help of a professional, which generates an additional expense. It is better to opt for a stainless steel sink: it is simple and convenient to use.
