11 Key Characteristics That Set Rich People Apart From The Rest

Convinced by movies and TV series, we believe that all rich people live in huge mansions, wear fancy clothes and expensive jewelry. However, these stereotypes do not always correspond to real life. Sometimes really rich people drive old cars, spend money sparingly and wisely, and live in simple houses that don’t stand out at all.

Users of the social network Reddit noticed some differences between wealthy people and ordinary people and shared their observations. We, from awesome.clubwe came across this discussion and decided to reflect on the subject with our readers.

Rich people look at money differently

Money helps to bring comfort and a certain level of security and paves the way for the realization of dreams. But the rich, in addition to meeting basic needs, use their assets to multiply their wealth.

I have two brothers: the eldest earns a lot and the youngest very little, while I manage to stay in the middle class. And our situation shows how differently people understand the very nature of money. Poor people spend everything and save all the time. For the middle class, money is a tool to achieve goals. Know that time is precious

Rich people tend to value their time and allocate resources correctly. They know how to delegate tasks to others and spend their money to buy time. Because, in that free time, they can study the financial market, read a new book or simply rest.

The director of the company where I worked hired a driver to take him to the office, airport, meetings, etc. every day. They do not “hold on” to what they have accumulated

Many people are willing to share what they have. And in this regard, the rich have more opportunities. We all know the examples of patrons who supported artists, musicians, writers. And these days rich people donate millions to charity. For example, a few years ago, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg pledged to donate 99 percent of his shares to support and advance science, education and health.

My friend’s family is rich and his parents are very generous. Once I found out that he had not received a salary for a long time, and I told him about it. He was a little shocked, but admitted that he didn’t even realize he wasn’t getting paid, as he was just doing the work he enjoyed. © Mysterious-Wash-7282 / Reddit

buy works of art

To make the house cozy, we use paintings, flowers and other items. In this sense, the difference between rich people and ordinary people is limited to the place of purchase and the price of these items.

don’t show off

Successful people see no point in demonstrating their wealth. They know they’re rich, and that’s enough.

You might think that people dressed in suits are rich. And then you realize they work for people who wear jeans. © lilcheez / RedditI was once with my friend at a meeting with businessmen. Upon sitting down they put their car keys on the table but my friend left his in his pocket. Already after the meeting, he said: “Truly rich people do not show their wealth. We were talking to the wrong people.” I can only add that the rich are known for their smart decisions and not for fancy cars. © religionisanger / Reddit

Compare your income and expenses

Nowadays it is quite popular to say: “If you want to be rich, think and act like one. Buy whatever you want”. But such behavior can lead to the accumulation of large debts.

Many people don’t do financial planning and don’t know how much they spend each month, and that’s a mistake. I’m from the middle class, and I don’t have the need to plan expenses, but I still always compare my income and expenses. And that’s how I accumulate money. I’m not from a wealthy family, but my father had good financial knowledge. What you do with your money determines whether you will be rich or poor. © myco_psycho / Reddit

But don’t deny yourself the pleasure

Rich people know what and how much they intend to spend on, and when the need arises, they don’t wait and don’t postpone spending.

When I was 17, I had a conversation at the airport with a businessman, who was really nice and polite. He enjoyed the conversation so much that he paid about $800 to change my ticket to first class. Just so I could sit next to him. Later he explained that when people find out who he is, they try to please him, and I talked to him as if he were an ordinary person. © throwawayspank1017 / Reddit

take care of your health

Doctor appointments, tests and treatments take a lot of time and money, but they are essential for life. High-income people understand this and don’t skimp when it comes to their physical health.

I once had a job interview at a large company. In the office, all the women were impeccable, with looks worthy of a coronation ceremony. However, when I saw the director, I soon noticed a detail that set her apart from the others: she had perfect skin without any foundation. Regardless of age, a rich woman will always have a chic hairstyle. And rich people are also very attentive to their oral health. © nospecialsnowflake / RedditFlawless skin and healthy teeth. Wealthy people can afford to go to doctors and beauty professionals to take care of their appearance. I once went into such an office. Since then, I can identify a rich woman just by the skin tone of her face. © VaporsAndSpleen / Reddit

Require the service to run flawlessly

When hiring a service, we expect it to be of good quality, and we carefully control and verify everything. Rich people are used to doing everything as best as possible, so they demand the same from their subordinates.

I own a residential painting service, and over time I’ve realized that I’m right to ask a high price. Rich people are more demanding, because for the money they pay, they want high-quality work. When my clients find faults, I try to fix them as soon as possible. If they pay $10,000 for the service, they have the right to demand whatever they want. © Sergeant-Pepper- / Reddit

Follow the trend of conscious consumption

As income increases, the desire to buy high-quality items, to look good, and also to consume healthy food, bought in specialized places, grows.

I worked at a waste management company that catered to people of all income levels. I found that, in the most luxurious condominiums, residents produced less garbage and recycled much more. I think one of the reasons is that rich people buy more organic products that usually have less packaging, while lower income people go to cheap stores. © boinksnzoinks / Reddit

Explain to their children the importance of education

All parents put a lot of effort into the education of their children. In addition to school, children practice extracurricular activities and attend sports clubs. But the problem is that most parents don’t explain to their children the need for all these additional activities. When a child sees his friends playing in the courtyard, he simply doesn’t understand why he needs to stay at home, studying English.

My friends are very rich. One time we were having dinner and her 10-year-old son started to refuse to learn to play tennis because he didn’t know anyone at school and didn’t have the slightest interest. Then his mother explained why he needed to continue training: “When you grow up to be a diplomat and travel, for example, to Japan or the USA, how are you going to find the people you need? A tennis court is a great place for that.” When I was 10, my mother told me I should take piano lessons because “otherwise you’ll be wandering the streets, and when you’re in music school I know you’re safe and well.” © Amber Lacerta / Facebook
