The 2000s brought a breath of fresh air to the fashion world. It was a mixture of styles from different subcultures, which nowadays is impossible to imagine. Back then, what was daring was fashion. Today, however, some choices from those times seem so unusual that we’re left wondering, “How did we wear this?”
we, from awesome.club, we decided to remember clothes and accessories that were a trend in the turbulent 2000s. Maybe you still have one of these pieces in your wardrobe. Check out!
Bolero
These short “coats” were totally useless against the cold, but they became the dream of every young fashionista at the time since the stars started wearing them. This accessory was presented in the most diverse types: dense or knitted, with sequins or rhinestones, with long and tight sleeves or short and voluminous. It wasn’t really clear what its function was, but it was unlikely you could keep warm with one.
Short leggings with tunics
Leggings were at the height of fashion in the 2000s. Girls wore them with dresses or as pants. But then a shorter version appeared, which came to be especially combined with tunic-style blouses, long, loose-fitting blouses or denim miniskirts. Often, the look was complemented by a wide belt with an oversized buckle — another crazy trend from the 2000s.
Pants with leg warmers over shoes
We don’t know where this madness came from. However, many girls in the 2000s wore leg warmers like the one shown in the photo above. This was not a very practical option, especially in mud and rain. But that didn’t stop fashionistas from “embracing” the style. Fact is, we are glad that this trend is in the distant past.
Jeans with rhinestones
Jeans have been in fashion for a long time, but at the beginning of the 21st century their appearance was far from the classic of today. Perhaps many remember the pants with a low waist. And if they were full of rhinestones, then they “caused” even more. Fortunately, simplicity and practicality are in fashion today, so beaded pants are rarely seen.
Sunglasses with colored lenses
On very sunny days, these glasses did not fulfill their main function. But you could wear them indoors and see everything in color. In addition to the lack of practicality, the glasses were not always original, and it was common to find counterfeit versions simply because they were particularly fashionable.
Asymmetrical dresses and skirts
At that time, this style of dress looked delicate, light and elegant. But the years have passed and we don’t understand how we could be so wrong. Maybe on the dance floor these dresses could look spectacular. But on a day-to-day basis, they definitely look weird and don’t accentuate the silhouette in any way.
White t-shirt with miniskirt or jeans
Girls, in those days, weren’t afraid to show their bodies. That’s why every fashionable girl’s wardrobe had clothes a little revealing. The popular white T-shirts paired with miniskirts or low-rise jeans, however, often caused distortions. Visually, the torso looked longer and the bra straps showing made the look look messy.
Square nail extensions and false nails
The nail industry also succumbed to the trends of the crazy 2000s. At that time, extensions had just started to come into fashion. And of course, there were the most varied unimaginable lengths. The most popular shape was square, even on long nails. Girls who couldn’t afford to go to the salon would put on false nails, but sometimes the result was scary.
belly currents
It seems that in the 2000s girls loved to wear accessories. Especially on bellies. Some wore belly button piercings with huge stones while others were content with a chain, which, to us, didn’t look very comfortable. However, the topic was a fever.
Jeans with the high folded hem
We may even be outraged at young people who wear their pants with their ankles uncovered. But if we remember how we used the hem of the pants in the old days, the indignation falls to the ground. In the 2000s, folding the hem of the pants was fashionable, and girls used this trick even with sandals. Some fashionistas even folded bell bottoms — and it wasn’t a very elegant thing.
