10 Movies inspired by true stories in which the real protagonist appears among the actors

Making a film or television adaptation of a true story is always a big challenge for screenwriters, producers, directors and even the production team. Keeping the essence of the story and simultaneously making the story dynamic, interesting and fun can often cause some confusion between what is reality and what is fiction. Luckily, some movies hit the nail on the head, as they rely on the real people in the story as part of the creative process.

1. Erin Brockovich, in Erin Brockovich — A Woman of Talent

Julia Roberts gave the world an extremely convincing performance in this film, which is why she won the Oscar for best actress. Her performance was so good and the film so well directed that Erin, the real person, decided to participate in the film. She is the waitress who quickly appears serving the actress and her children in a diner.

2. Frank Abagnale Jr., in Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can is a very dynamic film directed by Steven Spielberg. In the story, Tom Hanks chases Frank Abagnale Jr., played by Leonardo DiCaprio. During the arrest of the main character, Frank himself appears on the scene as a policeman; that is, somehow, he ends up trapping himself.

3. Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness

Will Smith was nominated for a best actor Oscar for his moving performance in The Pursuit of Happyness. In the final scene of the film, when Will walks beside his son, we see him looking back and seeing a man walking. This is exactly the person played by Will, that is, Chris Gardner himself.

4. Phillip Morris, Hustler of the Year

Before the success of Joker, Todd Phillips stepped out of his comfort zone in the film Dogs of War, a production that portrays the true story of David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill). Interestingly, David Packouz himself briefly appears in the film singing a song.

7. Larry Flynt, in The People Versus Larry Flint

Woody Harrelson was in charge of giving life to the fun Larry Flynt. Interestingly, who plays the judge who arrests the character is Larry himself, putting himself this time in the shoes of the one who judged him.

8. Margaret Keane, in Big Eyes

Tim Burton made a beautiful portrait of Margaret Keane and her artistic work in the movie Big Eyes. In one scene, Margaret herself makes a brief appearance sitting on a bench and quietly reading. Meanwhile, Amy Adams, the actress who plays her, paints one of her works.
