10+ Mexican soap operas that have been adapted in other countries thanks to their popularity (and that enchanted us)

In the world of soap operas, each story is special and in the plot we can find great doses of romance, action, passion and, above all, a lot of drama. Sometimes the narrative becomes so popular that they decide to try their luck in another country to find out if the story will be as successful as in their home territory. Thus, they venture to adapt the same plot with new actors.

Mexico is known for the great success of its soap operas. Therefore, we, from awesome.club, we want to share with you some narratives that were recorded in other countries. Have a good time!

1. marimar

Due to the resounding success of the novel marimar, starring Thalía and Eduardo Capetillo in 1994, Philippine television producer GMA Entertainment TV decided to adapt this story 21 years after its debut. The plot tells the ups and downs of a young woman from the coast, who, after trying to pick vegetables from a farm, falls in love with a young man who defends her. This new version, entitled MariMar, featured Megan Young and Tom Rodríguez in 2015 and was entirely set in Manila, Philippines. It even had its own adaptation of the main theme, “MariMar”, played by Hannah Precillas.

two. Friends and Rivals 🇧🇷 Friends & Rivals

In 2001, Canal de las Estrellas launched the soap opera Amigas and Rivales, starring Ludwika Paleta, Angélica Vale, Michelle Vieth, Adamari López, Arath de la Torre, Gabriel Soto, among others. Six years later, this telenovela that tells the story of four 21-year-old girls, whose lives and dreams are intertwined, despite belonging to different classes and social circles, was adapted telling the same story in 140 chapters by the Brazilian Television System. (SBT).

3. Catalina and Sebastián 🇧🇷 Bought Love

In 2008, Venevisión Internacional decided to adapt its own soap opera Catalina and Sebastián, shown in 1999 and featuring Silvia Navarro and Sergio Basáñez as protagonists. In the Mexican story, Catalina is forced to marry Sebastián for financial reasons, while he lies to her about her social standing. In the American version, Willy needs to get married before turning 30, so as not to lose her inheritance, and she meets Mariana, who needs money to defend her father who is in prison.

4. Postal Code 🇧🇷 Baie des Famboyants

the youth novel Postal Code 2006 was adapted a year after its release by a French production company, under the title Baie des Flamboyants (Fancy Bay, in free translation). With three seasons and a total of 300 episodes, this soap opera tells the story of impossible loves and hidden truths around the residents of Flamboyant Bay, which has a romantic and sunny landscape.

5. Emerald

This dramatic story, which begins with the replacement of a baby from a wealthy family, was directed by Beatriz Sheridan, produced by Salvador Mejía and featured Letícia Calderón and Fernando Colunga as protagonists. The soap opera Emerald aired in 1997 and adapted for Brazilian television in 2004.

6. Family portrait 🇧🇷 El Secreto

Telling the story of a dysfunctional family that tries to appear happy in front of society, El Secreto 🇧🇷The secret) premiered in 2001 and had the participation of Eduardo Capetillo, Lola Forner and Lorena Bernal as protagonists. It was produced by the Spanish company Euro Ficción TV and is an adaptation of the televisa soap opera broadcast in 1995, called Family portrait 🇧🇷Family portrait🇧🇷

7. I will never forget you 🇧🇷 I will never forget you

Juan Osorio and Carlos Moreno Laguillo produced the telenovela I will never forget you 🇧🇷I will never forget you🇧🇷 in 1999. It was played by Edith González and Fernando Colunga, who played two lovers who have known each other since they were very young, but who separated because of the boy’s mother. The telenovela was adapted for a Brazilian audience in 2003.

8. Reach a Star 🇧🇷 Hollywood Heights

Hollywood Heights is an American television series and an adaptation of the telenovela starring Eduardo Capetillo and Mariana Garza, called Reach a Star🇧🇷 Both versions address the romance and challenges experienced by a young woman in love with a singer, a celebrity of the moment, whom she ends up meeting. He then helps her start her own artistic career.

9. Como in the cinema 🇧🇷 Iubire Ca în Film

Como in the cinema 🇧🇷like in the cinema) is a soap opera by TV Azteca starring Lorena Rojas and Mauricio Ochmann and broadcast in 2001 in Mexico. This story was adapted five years later by Romania. The plot revolves around a woman who, to support her younger sister, becomes a dancer in a bar. The situation is complicated when she falls in love with a man with psychological trauma, making him believe that she is a professional psychologist.

10. Angel’s Carita 🇧🇷 Angel’s face

the brazilian soap opera Angel’s face is an adaptation of the Mexican children’s production Angel’s Carita🇧🇷 These soap operas show the life of a girl at a religious boarding school, where her father enrolled her before leaving abroad. Throughout the story, the girl’s antics are presented, which end up triggering a love affair between her father and a boarding school nun.

11. Accomplices to Rescue 🇧🇷 Accomplices in a Rescue

It is a children’s story based on the famous Mexican soap opera Accomplices to Rescate. Both the Brazilian and the Mexican versions tell the story of two twins with totally opposite personalities. When they meet, they manage to exchange places with each other and live the adventures resulting from this attitude.

12. Daddy to All Mother 🇧🇷 Pa’ want you

Among the most recent adaptations of Mexican telenovelas, we find Pa’ want youbroadcast by RCN Televisión in Colombia in January 2020. The story is based on the soap opera Daddy to All Mother and tells the story of a successful businessman. This man finds out about the existence of a daughter, whom he needs to take care of, because the mother left the child with him and left.
