10 Iconic Characters Who Messed With Our Psychology So Much We Didn’t Even Realize Their Darker Side

Our favorite movies sometimes play a cruel trick on us: we sympathize with some characters so much that we fail to realize they weren’t all that great. Take, for example, Rose in Titanic, who cheated on her fiance with young Jack, whom she barely knew. However, that doesn’t seem to take away from her status as a romantic cult lead.

We, from incredible.clubwe decided to recall other movie characters that many people like, although in reality they are not at all charismatic.

Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen fought bravely for justice, but in personal relationships she was not so perfect. For example, throughout the films, the heroine could not forgive her mother’s depressive state, which made her not take care of her children.

Katniss was also cruel to strangers. In the first part of The Hunger Games, the girl shamelessly used Gale and Peeta to achieve her goals. The first risked to protect the girl’s family, and the second was necessary to make her look like a winner in the public eye and receive bonuses during games.

Janis from Mean Girls

The main villain of the movie Mean Girls was Regina, the most popular girl in school, who bullied her classmates and wove intrigues. But Janis, Regina’s zealous adversary and outcast, sometimes behaved even more cruelly.

She devised a comprehensive plan of revenge against the “Queen of the Hive” and implemented it at the hands of her friend Cady, who had just transferred to her new class. Despite her cowardly actions, Janis was portrayed as the mouthpiece of justice, which might sound unfair.

Kate McCallister from Home Alone

As a child, it was funny to watch the adventures of Kevin, who skillfully dealt with the bad guys while he was home alone. But this Christmas movie is worth reviewing to raise many questions about the boy’s parents, especially his mother.

Kate McCallister couldn’t be bothered to wake her 8-year-old son, help him get dressed and pack for the airport. Nothing bothered her for a long time, until, already far from her hometown, she finally remembered: “Kevin!”

Furthermore, she managed to put her son in danger twice: in the movies Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. So it’s hard to call Kate an exemplary mother.

Glinda from the musical The Wizard of Oz

The Good Witch of the North, Glinda, from the movie The Wizard of Oz was actually not so kind. Without batting an eye, she picked up the Wicked Witch of the East’s shoes and handed them to Dorothy. Then she led the girl down the yellow brick road to the Great and Terrible Wizard, assuring him that only he would help her return home.

It turns out that young Dorothy, guided by Glinda, went on a dangerous journey in vain. The girl could have gone back to her uncles from the start, simply by touching the heels of their magic shoes. But according to the witch’s logic, the girl like that wouldn’t have understood much.

Allie Hamilton from The Notebook

As touching and romantic as the story of a young man and a girl from different social backgrounds in the film Diary of a Passion may seem, in reality, their relationship was quite toxic. Mainly because of Allie’s behavior.

She has provoked scandal countless times instead of enjoying stability. And, years later, she found herself with Noah, cheating on her fiance. Some see the film as a fairy tale about soul mates, while others see it as a story about codependent relationships and questionable acts.

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde

Elle Woods may be a gifted student, but her motivation was quite strange. She entered law school because of painful dependence on a boyfriend. The guy dumped her, claiming that Elle wasn’t serious enough for a relationship.

To prove the opposite and get Warner back, the heroine threw herself headlong into her studies and ended up in the same university class with her ex. Everything she accomplished wasn’t done for her own good, but to piss off Warner. Perhaps this is not the best example to follow.

Sophie Sheridan from Mamma Mia! The film

Sophie is a very selfish person. First, to find her real father, she invited three of her mother’s ex-boyfriends to the wedding at once, without bothering to warn her about it. So, after having put everyone in an uncomfortable position more than once, she abandoned the celebration and went traveling the world. The guests, who had come a long way, were not very pleased with this turn of events.

Angélica from the films Angélica, the Marquise of Angels

Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget is charming in her imperfection. We loved her mostly because she sang in her pajamas and talked nonsense. And the mess she got herself into is familiar to most women.

However, throughout the franchise, Bridget seems to have learned nothing from life. She constantly alienated Mark Darcy, the perfect match in every way, over silly gossip. And she regularly displayed unwise attitudes. Well, who in their right mind would take up skiing without training or dare to jump with a parachute without an instructor?

Julianne Potter from My Best Friend’s Wedding

Many were worried about Julianne Potter and secretly wished that she had managed to take Michael O’Neal away from the lovely bride Kimberly Wallace. Although, if you think about it, Julia Roberts’ character was a real monster.

With a best friend like that, nobody needs enemies. It’s amazing how smart and gentle Michael put up with her whims. But it was even more painful for young Kimberly, who, because of Julianne, was almost traumatized.
