1. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
In 2018, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra had not one, but two wedding days — first a western wedding, followed by a traditional Hindu ceremony. Notably, the romance that led to a fairytale wedding began with Jonas sending a DM (direct message, or direct message in private) on Twitter for Chopra. “Heard from some mutual friends that we should get to know each other,” Jonas wrote, and the rest is history.
2. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
Another Jonas brother, Joe Jonas, had a romance that also started on the Internet. He and his wife, the star of War of Thrones, Sophie Turner, got engaged in 2017. But, even before they met, mutual friends tried to introduce them for a long time, but nothing worked. “We were following each other on Instagram and one day he sent me a direct message out of the blue,” Turner shared. The couple has already welcomed their first child, Willa.
3. Taylor Goldsmith and Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore, one of the stars of the TV series This Is Us, also thanks Instagram for starting her love story with musician and lead singer of the Dawes group, Taylor Goldsmith. “I took a photo from the album and posted it on Instagram,” shared Moore. “Somehow Taylor saw it and texted me. We started exchanging emails and had a date. That’s how it all started.”
4. Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams
The love story of Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams could serve as the plot for a romantic comedy. Adams participated in the twelfth season of the American TV show The Bachelorette🇧🇷 Hyland was watching the show and thought Adams was really cute, so he tweeted about it. “And that’s how our love story began,” said the actress. After seeing the tweet, Adams sent Sarah a direct message, which resulted in long virtual conversations and eventually face-to-face meetings.
5. Joel Dommett and Hannah Cooper
Joel Dommett, an English comedian and actor, also met his wife Hannah Cooper on the Internet. She was the one who sent the message first. “We met on this silly social platform,” shared Dommett. “She sent me a DM containing simply — and I will never get tired of telling people she messaged me first.” Dommett and Cooper got married in 2019.
6. Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin
Before Dylan Sprouse sent Barbara Palvin a text message for the first time, the actor stated in an interview, which Palvin also participated in, that she started following him first: “So I thought, I guess I’ll give you something. And off to the DMs.” However, Palvin wasn’t quite ready to respond: “I knew I wasn’t in the right frame of mind at the time and maybe deep down I knew it could be something more,” the actress said. The break lasted six months.
Before heading to China for a six-month shoot on a movie, the director asked Sprouse if there was anything he wanted to work out. “And for the first time in six months, Barbara popped into my head and I thought I wish I had time to find this girl,” Sprouse said. Ten minutes later, Palvin texted her.
7. Brittany Snow and Tyler Stanaland
Tyler Stanaland got in touch with Brittany Snow, the star of The perfect choice, through the social network. “We had a bunch of mutual friends, and he actually reached out to me on Instagram with a really lame line,” shared Snow. But it looks like the trick worked. In 2020, Stanaland and Snow were married and today they live happily.
8. Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
During his interview on the show Watch What Happens Live, Sarah Paulson shared that the beginning of her relationship with Holland Taylor was “a Twitter thing”. As it turns out, it was Taylor who initiated the direct messages with Paulson kicking off their romance.
9. Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid
In May 2020, singer and model Dua Lipa said in an interview on Watch What Happens Live which she started with direct messages to her boyfriend Anwar Hadid, before they started their relationship. “I have a confession to make, and mine is about my current boyfriend,” she said. And although Lipa and Hadid had met before, the message she sent on Instagram that day put the relationship in gear.
10. Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef
Ricky Martin, singer and actor, met her husband, Jwan Yosef, on Instagram. “I met my love on Instagram. I’m an art collector and he’s an artist. I wrote to him and we talked for about six months without me hearing from him,” shared Martin. Later, they met each other in London and have been living happily ever since.
