10+ Brazilian soap operas that had more than one version (and many of them we didn’t even imagine)

When the telenovela has a fascinating plot, the public is left with a taste of “I want more”. If the number of reruns of “Vale a Pena Ver de Novo” has already been exhausted, making a second version of the plot could be a great idea. After all, the new production can win back the old public and captivate new generations.

The soap opera Courage Brothers it was originally shown in 1970 and its updated version was broadcast in 1995. In the first version, the three protagonist brothers were played by Tarcísio Meira, Cláudio Cavalcanti and Cláudio Marzo. The role of Maria de Lara went to Glória Menezes. In the second version, Marcos Palmeira, Ilya São Paulo and Marcos Winter faced the protagonists and Letícia Sabatella gave life to Maria de Lara.

Actor Francisco Cuoco wore a turban and colorful clothes to give life to the seer Herculano Quintanilha, from the telenovela The Star🇧🇷 The idea for the team came up during the recording of the first chapter of the plot, which aired in 1977. In the second version, from 2011, Rodrigo Lombardi even learned to do real magic to play the protagonist.

The versions of Slave Isaura were produced by different broadcasters. The successful plot aired in 1976 on Globo and in 2004 on RecordTV. The main role was played by Lucélia Santos and Bianca Rinaldi.

Did you know that the novel Saramandaia won two versions? The soap opera aired in 1976 and in 2013. In case you don’t remember, the main plot revolves around the change of the name of the city from “Bole-Bole” to “Saramandaia”. The project was conceived by the character João Gibão, who was played by Juca de Oliveira and Sérgio Guizé.

Vanessa Giácomo’s first prominent role on television was that of the protagonist Zuca, from the telenovela cabocla🇧🇷 The actress soon had a great responsibility, as the person who assumed the same role in the first version of the plot was Gloria Pires.

Globo produced two versions of the telenovela Bad angel🇧🇷 The plot aired for the first time in 1976, with Susana Vieira in the role of the protagonist Nice. In 1997, it was Gloria Pires’s turn to play the title character of the plot.

Janete Clair’s novel, stone jungle, was produced twice. The role of young sculptor Simone Marques was played by Regina Duarte in the 1972 version and by Fernanda Torres in 1986.

The soap opera of SBT Chiquititas it was so successful in the 1990s that the story gained a new version in 2013. In the first phase, the protagonist Mili was played by Fernanda Souza. In the second, Giovanna Grigio took on the lead role.

The plot of the book by Maria José Dupré, we were six, is so iconic that it has already received five television adaptations. The plot was first shown in 1958 by RecordTV. Afterwards, Tupi made two versions of the soap opera: one in 1967 and another in 1977. SBT was in charge of the fourth adaptation of we were sixwhich aired in 1994. And the most recent version of the telenovela, produced by Globo, aired in 2019.

Juliana Paes had a great responsibility when she “replaced” Sônia Braga in the second version of Gabriela🇧🇷 At the time, the actress was 33 years old and came to hear criticism within Globo for having an “advanced” age to play the character.

Thankfully, Juliana Paes put her insecurity aside and used all her talent to bring Gabriela to life. “It was a success and I’m very proud of this character,” said the actress.

Did you know that Globo had two telenovelas called My Little Piece of Ground🇧🇷 Despite the title being the same, the plots are different. The plot of the 1971 soap opera was a “rural drama” and conveyed educational information about vaccination, dehydration, hygiene and agricultural techniques. The 2014 production, on the other hand, had an air of fairy tales and the plot was moved by the clash between the characters Colonel Epa and Pedro Falcão for the construction of the school in Vila de Santa Fé.
